That guy's Ok, but he's got to work a little bit on his punching and kicking technique. I would definately hurt him pretty badly.

Thanx for the link.

It's pretty easy to look at a battle and THINK you would do better or what should be done differently. Sitting back watching you have time to assess...ACTUALLY fighting, you don't. Granted, his kicks could be better, however, they seem to be working. I think his edge is that he seems very mentally prepared. Mental rediness will out weigh physical size and physical conditioning every time. You could be a modern day Jack LeLane, physically, but if you're loose in the head it won't really matter. You can either take this from experience or the history books.

I spend a lot of tmie on martial arts forums since I started training in Kempo.

CroCop is one of the top fighters in the world. One loss to the best Japenes fighter, Nogueira, who got him in a armbar.

IF you aren't kidding (which Im pretty sure you are), what would you say was the problem with his kicks?

The only thing I see is that he's not pivoting on his planted foot so after 20 years of kicking like that he might damage his knee.

That video is awsome. What fighting style do they call that.

THe guys that fight that sport have pretty much turned hteir back on styles as most people think of them : karate, Tae Kwon Do, etc. The term they like to use is MMA for "mixed martial arts". They will train muay thai kicking, Brazilian jujitsu grappling, kempo or arnis handwork... stuff like that.

I study quite a bit in grappling and noticed much of it in his style. I would just like to expand out a little more. He is very talented.

No doubt he's talented. He fights well even while he's down. He stays very calm. Negueira has beaten numerous people with the arm bar and a few choke holds. He has an impressive career. Great video. I've watched it numerous times. I've been going over the video with my son. I'd like him to give it a try. Kids are funny though. He looks at me and says: "Dad, I think you could beat him." I told him I probably COULD NOT and he called me a liar! WOW! What an image he has. I guess dad power goes a long way..

Flamark,

You really can't go wrong with Muay Thai. I did kickboxing, then Muay Thai. When younger, before the big MMA craze, we used to fight with no pads. People used to tease us and say "no pads, no face, no brains". Traditional Muay Thai is brutal. Is is generally not taught in North America, though sometimes it is, but the actual fighting is no permitted. Knees, elbows, forearms, low kicks, flying knees and full clinching...all legal. In Thailand, these guys are AMAZING!! Only the Dutch come close...and even they lag behind. By the time one is a teenager in Thailand, they've had over 100 fights. They start them off young..one reason is so the shins calcify and get thicker and harder. Have seen a few guys get baseball bats broken over their shins. Don "The Dragon" Wilson, at the time Americas best kickboxer was destroyed twice by fighters in Thailand. Many say that if someone is able to master the Thai roundhouse low kick along with Judo or Jiu-Jitsu techiniques (as CroCop has), they are nearly unbeateable. (as CroCop is). I'm also VERY fond of Judo. The choke holds (shime-waza) in Judo are sneaky...and powerful. You've probably seen the triangle choke with the leg over ones head. (Sankaku Jime). Nogueira uses it frequently. I had Trish lay one on me, since I had never truly felt a solid one. She's a gymnast, and to my suprise, had me in the choke even before I had passed her guard properly. It is a very painful choke. Moreso than what Nogueira uses, as the proper Judo technique requires you to put your forearm under the neck and THEN crank the triangle on. I was tapping out furiously, but on her butt..and she thought I was just "hitting her". I almost blacked out. It was that fast. Pretty funny too. I frequently have her demonstrate the speed at which she can put this choke on, since she is so flexible and limber.

David,

Yep..it easy to find one in the US, but the competitions aren't traditional MT. No elbows or forearms allowed. Believe me when I tell you, that in North America MT is waterered down some, and North American MT is almost a martial arts of its' own.
