Time to change them thar spark plugs

The 98 LSC now has about 110K Km on it, that's about 70K miles. I've noticed that it occasionally stumbles when it's cold at low rpm under load. I think it's time for a little maintenance.

I picked up a set of Autolight 764's and a fuel filter last weekend. Weather permitting, I think I'll try to change them this Saturday...

Something about the coil packs and boots makes me a bit nervous though, as I've never worked with them before. And those plugs sure are buried deep in there...

don't be too concerned... once you take off all the covers etc, changing the plugs is "slick and quick". I'd have to say the easiest ones I've ever changed... just make sure you have a 12" extension and your socket securely holds the plug!

Tape the socket to the extension with electrical tape. If you unclip the coil pack from the wiring harness it is easier to pull it out. Check the boots for cracks. If you need one let me know. That is what could be causing the stumble.

hmm the plugs should last until 100k.
Fuel filter might be due.
I pulled mine at 60k and they looked great, i regretted pulling them ever since.

Thanks guys for the advice. Look's like I'd better go and get a 12" extension... Seeing as my 6" just won't do :+

I wonder how "long" it will take for this thread to get locked!!! I'd better behave, seeing as I'm supposed to help moderate this forum... :7

I would love to see a Second Gen Speedo in KM's. is it 240 Top speed? any pics of daytime running lights?

Ah ha! It looks as though Goalie has LSC envy and did something about it. How much did the paint job, er cosmetic surgery run you? Or did you just do it yourself. Hope if wasn't too painful... :7

(No need to share costs, just playing with words again)...

That has to be the nicest color Mark VIII. cant wait to see pics after you completely monochrome it! dont forget those Eye lids.

All done. Had to settle for a 3/8 - 10" extension, as 12" couldn't be found (at Canadian Tire that is). Seeing as I'll only use this extension once in a while, I opted for an economy model...

- Autolite Copper 764 gapped to .048
- Replaced the fuel filter too

I had picked up a fuel filter from PartsSource. They use the same warehouse as Canadian Tire. Went to install it, it was the wrong one. Grrrr. Looked similar, but didn't fit. Inflow was too long.

Fortunately, my friendly FordLincoln Dealer was open down the street and they had one in stock...Wheew... I'll deal with PartsSource later....

Changing the plugs on this car was a pleasure. Sorry I paid someone to do it on my 94 1stGen...
