I only got two runs in 2 1/2 hours so i left after the second one. Hooked up with some two of the other napa store managers, one was one the guy with the caddy (cai, exhaust, no cat, accel ignition stuff) ran 15.1 and 14.9 tonight, same guy that was suppose to race the white gen 1 i had and never did, other friend has a 240sx turbo, gutted, race seat, cutouts, and pulled off some 12.5' tonight.

Info - 97 Mark VIII - 1/2 tank, spare tire/jack, spare belt & breaker bar in the trunk, 58,125 miles, entirely stock with new motorcraft plugs + fuel filter on kuhmo ecsta tires

First- easy on the throttle off the line, tires felt great so i gave it the go 2nd time after it had a chance to cool down.

Some altima
that had a pretty
valve cover ---------- VIII

Its got some more in it as i didnt beat on it at all could probably pulled another tenth outta it but didnt feel like waiting in line again. My goal was a 14.99 to shut my friend up with the eldordo and i beat that and tied him with the crap hes got on it so i'm pleased with my 14.94 on a 100% stock gen 2

Launched at idle both times no t/c, no o/d, second time gave it the go and it was smooth the whole way down, felt good riding on those bags, real good. This was just to get an idea what its potential stock was. I removed the air silencer and threw a K & N in it yesterday. (went to the track tuesday) and now it breathes, breathes hard enough that @ WOT my belt is squealin so now i gotta put a tensioner on it.

also gotta do the back brakes it started making noise on the way down...lol i just said somethin earlier about how i knew it needed them but no noise and now when i back up it sounds horrible.

even so, I'll bet...that "before the race"..both the Altima with the pretty valve cover AND that Toyota Tundra "THOUGHT" that "the grandma's car" in the other lane was going to be an EASY KILL.

that's one of the best parts of the mark 8, the "WTF FACTOR and EXPRESION" when your opponent realizes that he's "bitten off more than he can chew".

it's even better when it's a mustang or camaro or S2000.. one of them "perfomance cars" you speak of.

Chevelles??? I love em, they taste just like chicken!
*LMAO*

Hey J, back a few years ago.. I ran into some cocky kid in a bright yellow S2000 on the freeway.

He took off..and I didn't.. so he slowed down and "tried again"
the second time "I matted it"..and put 2 car lengths on him.
he managed to get back 1 of the two car lengths from 60-130..but was still "looking" at the Mark 8 tailights...

I have to admit, for a little 4 holer, those cars run pretty danged good.

I hate people like that, glad you gave it to him and threw it right in his face! :)

I think the biggest benifits are the VTEC and its lighrt weight that make em so quick. I've broken the rears loose when the VTEC kickes in a couple of times, its kinda like a turbo or something.

not to talk down to the s2k's so much but my buddy in his bone stock 1.3L DOHC swift walked down a s2k one weekend at the "legal drag strip". yes i said he had to walk him down because the RWD of the s2k got the launch vs the FWD of the "geo"but he cough him.

Stall, gears, & tuner
While that is a "good route" to take.

Let me suggest taking a slightly different, more scenic route.

fly to the destination and take the trip backwards.

Tuner, Gears, Stall.

Your gonna get more fun out of your car quicker with a good solid tune...

Then once you optimize your combination in the stock form, put gears in the car and the needed changes to the tune for the gears.

Once you get to that point and you've gotten famliar with the combination.. then chunk a stall converter at it.

reason being, a stall converter in a stock car IS a good mod, but without the ability to adjust the tune you dont get "all the bang for the buck".

Same with gears, a significant expense..and labor but you wont get "all the bang" without the ability to adjust the tune.

Also by taking this route, you dont have abunch of "advanced changes" in the tune to troubleshoot and work your way thru.

While this might not be the most direct route to your goal, it is a more scenic and educational route.

Unless you just want to "write a check" to some guy and get "teleported" to your destination...which is fine for some people.

I was just going to save the stuff up and do it all at once, that is a good call however as i am a strong believer in doing one thing at a time that way if there is a problem you know where to look. ;)

While we are on this topic, is there anything else i'm overlooking? All the maintence stuff is done, jmod will be soon, all fluids changed out soon, etc? I was thinking a good tuner as that will be a life saver, stall, gears, and throwing the one piece 93 shaft i have in it. Since everything else is up to par any advice on where to go next, or maybe before stall and gears? I was saving exhaust for when it needs it and i'm kinda loving having a quiet car for once...although that'll change eventually i'm sure. Its just good to get an idea from those of you who have already been there and done that.

I'm a big fan of cutouts... you can make the car noisy when you want it, and quiet when you don't. And unless you have headers installed, you aren't messing up any exhaust scavenging. Also cutouts are cheap!

I agree that the stall converter should be the last thing you do. A stall converter is very sensitive to engine torque and gearing, etc, and works best when it is mated to your specific car/mods. It would be an expensive pain in the ass to put in a converter, then make a bunch of changes and the find out that you have to put in a different converter after all is said and done.

.
Devin brings up a very good point.
you want to get ANY mods that will increase HP or Torque done BEFORE you put a stall it in..because changing the HP and Torque will affect the stall speeds.

Also, off the top of my head... I think the only thing you have overlooked is a HUGE MONDO TRANS cooler...like the one on Driller or Tiffany's car (they have the same cooler) it's HUGE!
(lol)
