Greenleaf Auto Parts, here they are: http://www.greenleafauto.com/

When Jerry W. discovered that my Reinhart "Bulletproof" Trans was bogus, and just a '94 stock trans, and Jerry needed a late model core quick to build up for me, I located an '02 4r70w in the local Michigan Greenleaf location for $600. Jerry told me that when he opened it up he found no wear at all on the clutches. It appeared that it had been removed from a car that had somehow been flooded.

Several others I know have found low mileage r4's (and engines) from Greenleaf... $600 or so shipped seems to be the going rate. You'll want one that's at least 1999, but 2002 and up is better.

There are other sources, but I know you can get something at Greenleaf.. they have a warranty/guarantee policy with their parts as well..

+1 on the greenleaf. $500 for a 98 Mark VIII 4R70W with couple thousand miles on it. It's been fine for the last 45k miles, hard miles.

What would be a good donor vehicle to use? I have seen people mention the 2001-02 Crown Vic. Which model would be best, the police version or one of three different letter codes/models? Just wondering which would work better or best.

IIRC, get a tranny out of an F-150 5.4L pickup. It uses a different speedo gear though. It's the toughest 4R70W IIRC. A few of my friends have them in their T-Birds, and they have seen LOTS of abuse :D

Are there any modifications needed? What about in a Gen1(EECIV)?

If you get a tranny from a '98 Mark, you need to change one pin on the connector to make it work. And the '98 transmissions had the MD OWC and the updated accumulators. It should be all you need, even with a blower. The 5.4L transmissions may need more, i have never found a straight answer to that question. I think they may need a different valve body to work properly with a mark computer.
