TRansmission Cost

Does anyone know the approximate cost of a transmission for a 1991 Continental Executive Series? I am in the Lake County area of Illinois and would like to replace my transmission, seems to be slipping and not going into gears that easily, burning a lot of gas also.

That's a VERY cheap transmission to rebuild. If you pay a shop to do a complete job (removing/rebuilding/reinstalling)I'd say $1,500 tops. Used ones are available pretty much everywhere so finding one for $200 and paying a friend $200 to put it in would be easy too.
