Trunk key (round) - how to get one

Hello All,

Do you know of any way to obtain a (round) trunk key other than having a locksmith picking the trunk lock? I never had the key card that comes with the new Mark VIII as I wasn't the first owner. Called a couple of local Las Vegas Lincoln dealers and they told me that '93 Mark VIII is too old and they have no means of ordering the key using the VIN # or the key card code (or any other way for that matter).

The electric trunk opening started to work sporadically/unreliably and I may need to have a trunk key just in case.
Thanks.

Just buy a used trunk lock with key from one of the "parting out" guys.

I ended up replacing my trunk lid off another Black gen 1 parts car we had and forgot to hook up the electronic trunk popper and had no key...I was soon a trunk monkey removing the back seat and using a flashlight and a long pick tool. Dont be a trunk monkey

Speaking of trunk monkeys, for the purpose of manually operating the trunk lock in emergencies, similar to the manual gas door release cable that's OEM, has anyone rigged a wire/cable/any type gizmo from the trunk latch assembly and fished it through the bulkhead into the gas filler compartment? Or invented another means of manually popping the trunk when the electric actuator acts off?

Thanks for your suggestions of just replacing the whole darn trunk lock with another one with a key.
Best wishes!

I've had a locksmith build me keys for bikes when I bought them as non runners for restoration. No keys, but a legit title. I usually just took in the fuel tank or pulled the ignition switch (easy on a bike) Anyway, it typically cost me $35 to 45 for them to do it. They were usually pretty quick about it. I'd find a real locksmith shop (not the I locked myself out mobile kind) and stop by the shop. If they sell and service safes, that's usually a good clue about being a legit locksmithing shop. They are the ones that can do this for you. Much cheaper and less hassle than changing the trunk lock kit. And you get a key that locks the stock electric release.

I'm a little confused here... what trunk key? My ignition key also works on the trunk... doesn't it? I don't think i ever tried the key on Moose!

Yep...what Bill said
Gen 1 owners have 2 keys
Some gen 2 owners had a simple "non-PATS" key made just for doors and trunk and used it as a hide-a-key for emergencies, but that wont start the car, just to open doors/trunk to gain entry should the keyless entry system fail. The PATS keys cost too much to stash as a hide-a-key

Found a TL146 Trunk Lock Cylinder for $39 new on Amazon (of all places...). If I manage to fire up an old XP computer which can read the Lincoln Mark VIII shop manual bought back in 2000something (written for Win 98) I may be able to figure out how to replace this trunk lock, but chances are slim to get that dinosaur going.

Did anyone replace this trunk lock and could give me some step-by-step instructions on how to do it? My forum search did not reveal anything meaningful. Thanks for your help.

I did a couple....dont remember the need for a "step-by-step" as I just started removing trim.
Be careful of the plastic behind the trunk lights as it will most likely BE cracked or WILL crack in the center (not visible though).
It was pretty simple/straight forward though. It's just a simple rotating lock cylinder with a flat rod that extends in to the latch mechanism if I recall.
Just be sure to test it out before you close the trunk...dont be a trunk monkey like I was

edit: I found this....it might help with some of the job
