Value of my 1975 Lincoln Continental Coupe

I've got what may be a stupid question but it has been bugging me.
The pic of the engine shows what looks like an oil filter attached to the air filter. What is it?

The angle at which the photo was taken isn't very good. I have no idea what that is. It's hard to tell if it's actually attached to the filter housing.

I see that same angle quite often and can't tell either. It's driving me nuts. I've never seen one on anything other than a 70's 460. Here is another angle and it definitely appears to be a oil? fuel? filter attached to the air filter.

Looks like some sort of air filter that filters the oil vapors that go back into the intake. Some sort of early emission device like a PCV. The old timers should know.
