water pump and oil

I had a small leak which turned out to be the water pump leaking from the bearing it's a usually a sign that it's going when you can hear the squeaking like it was making a week prior to going south. So I went and bought a new water pump for $40 Advance Auto new not remanufactured and a new oil filter and some oil while I'm here. Those of you who haven't done a water pump they're so easy in these Lincoln's you could talk a 10 year old girl through it. You want to loosen the nuts on the water pump pulley first before you lose tension in the belt it just makes it easier. Then loosen the belt unbolt the six bolts around the pump and it comes right out.

after loosening the bolts and getting the water pump loose sometimes it can speak a little shaken your pulled out make sure you clean all of where the gasket was even though its rubber there is usually some debris want to wash out with a rag for a clean mating surface when putting the pump back in I use a little grease around the edge helps in the seal and longevity of the gasket and even installation.

just in front of the alternator the coolant bypass tubes has a drain that's driven by quarter inch DR ratchet or proper tip. I cannot stress it enough every time you open the cooling system it must be burped. Loosen the plug let the water stream by with car running and it will bubble and all of the air trapped in your system release. Failure to do so will cause air pockets to form inside the motor at the minimum causing your gauges to jump around at maximum blowing and pressure hole somewhere. It will build up pressure in your system and when you open your reservoir you will hear it escape that's not a good sound. So after all the bubbles have stopped , you can hear the difference if not see it burping as it were you'll see and hear just water rushing by. reinsert the plug and you're off to the races.

well everything's back together clean and new although my crossover tube plug did not want to come out peacefully and is nowalmost stripped.the plug on notorious for being soft on the top I had to open it with vice grips. I had to open it because it had a lot of air to be burped. I'll be in search of a plug if anyone's got one.

Yup, I got a set off those, easy way to burp the system, and provide a good purch for loosening the plug for fill. Thanks Jay.
