Well, it finally happened

A couple of months ago, my original suspension compressor failed. Got a new arnott from advance auto. Installed and all is good. Then a small leak in the right front bag became more pronounced, and they would no longer fill up. So after much thought, I decided to switch to springs. I purchased an arnott full kit from napa. I installed the fronts yesterday. The rear is still on bags. Drove 95 miles to work today, and all is good.

With the lack of air suspension replacement parts, that is the fate of many.

How is the stance and the ride?

Fortunately I have a set a new OEM in my basement but with how much they are going for I can just order a set Air Ride Technology bags have them adapted to an old pair of shocks for the same price. Ill try and stay on air as long as possible.

I feel the ride height and control is the same as when the vehicle is fully aired up. Now it will prolly take 3-4 weeks for the springs to settle, so it may drop a little. They were $429.00, but I got it for $382.00.

I just don't understand why the manufacturers will offer the rear bags, when they know they don't require replacement as fast as the fronts do. How about a rebuild service? Send in your old front shocks, and they rebuild them for you! :)

A lot of cars are front coil springs and rear air springs. As long as there are aftermarket rears I would keep it like that, as I would guess it is the rear that can use the load balancing.

I concur with that. The load balancing of the rear suspension is a huge plus.

I have another used air-ride compressor that I got from Racebronco that will go in Big Red this year since mine just started to give up. I'll rock that for awhile, but I'm going to be switching to QA1 adjustable coil-overs at all four corners next round. The more I have been looking into it, those specifically appear to be the best conversion out there hands down from what I can tell. They are also very expensive. Pay to play, or get mad and put strutmasters in your car and then it rides like poo. Eventually everyone will be faced with the decision as I am noticing front bags are disappearing quickly.

I will NEVER, EVER EVER EVER EVER, switch to springs, IF GOd wanted it to have springs, he would have made it a T-Bird.

Unfortunately, even arnott with all of the new bags they are making, no longer make front air shock replacements. This car does need a lot of work, so I don't know how long I'm going to keep it.

I'm hoping the new Ford stuff I put in in 2011 lasts me a looooooooong time! My car mostly sits in the garage; I've only put a few miles on it tops since replacing everything. It's also on my to do list to treat the bags annually or semi-annually.

I have an answer to this problem. Put springs on and old school air shocks. Its an easy upgrade and if you are REALLY into it you can wire in a pump. No more soft deflated air bags when you slow from 75 to run a cloverleaf.
