this is basically how she looks now. the cloth top has been painted and will be sanded basically smooth. so my question is what color(s) should I paint it. I'm leaning towards toreado(sp?) red with a satin tan roof. also thinking a deep blue with the tan might look good. I've also been thinking about solid red or blue. opinions? photoshoppers that wanna show me what it'd look like?

I'm honestly scared to see what's under the top. most of the time they're rusty also this top covers part of the rear window so the seal and edge of window are probably in bad shape. like I said the top is going to be sanded and painted. so 1 vote solid RED I will keep that in mind

If you're keeping the top you should paint it matte black... Just so it looks like a proper cloth top.

For the rest of the body I like the Dark Titanium color used on the Mark VII... That's what color I'd like to paint mine anyways and I think It would look decent with a black top.

If you are getting a full repaint then there is so much you can do. Spend some time with your intended painter looking at color chips. Toreador is a 3 stage paint so that adds another level where they can play with the first stage. Throw in a littel extra flake (sparkle). Just making a slight modification to a stock paint can make a HUGE impact. The nice thing about a big show liek carlisle is it gives you the opportunity to see many paint colors on cars. There were a few "amped" up reds that would look great on a Mark. You could always look at slightly modifying the stock color.

That's what I was thinking if I went with a red, slightly darker and with more flake

Just remember if you do a custom color then if you need any paint repair work down the road it may cause issues.

I realize this, but honestly the guys I use will paint the whole car cheaper than most body shops will paint a panel.

I don't understand, you are going to sand the cloth top smooth? How do you sand cloth?

Here's a weird suggestion about the color, the gen 1 red garnet glaze. I've always liked it better than toreador, and am actually thinking of painting my CE that color.:)

the top has been painted with a thick paint made for fixing something(dont remember what) on boats. that paint will be sanded smooth. the red I was looking at is somewhere in between those 2 colors but with alot more flake in it
