What diff is everyone running in these hi tech irs rear ends?

I'm also running an Auburn diff. with 3.73s and Royal Purple. Most unfortunately, I had someone else do the first diff with a TruTrac and it never was right. Exaggerated noise and vibration on decel and it was always "clunky" as though there was an exorbitant amount of play in the gears. The new setup is awesome! Tight and quiet. The RP does have friction modifier in it whereas the TruTrac specifically calls for dinosaur gear oil without modifier because it's sealed.

Cheers and Merry Christmas! :smile-purple:

The concern with reoving the clip is your half shaft could pull out of the diff while driving. I do not know if this could actually happen. I have jacked the car up a hundred times and never had a problem. I guess if you went airborn while flying off a cliff this could happen but I am sure you would have bigger things to worry about.

Nice thing is there are many low mile trac-loks available for cheap. I bought a used 20K mile unit for $20. Still rebuilt the clutch packs though.

One guy on FB ran axles without clips and had axle "come out" enough where he snapped the very end of the axle off and it of course fell into the pumkin. Don't ask me how but it happened. I machine bevel on ethe inside of the side gears.

Never heard of it actually happening. I wonder what he was doing or if he did something wrong in the install. I am pretty sure JP ran one of his cars this way and never had a problem. I know he drove it hard with MANY strip runs.

I do not drive my car hard very often. Always safer to have the clips. I think if you go the used route and add the cost of a rebuild kit and paying someone to machine bevels you might as well just buy a new one. Off course if you can get the bevels machined for free that is a different story.

You could grind bevel with a dremel in a pinch I bet. Do them and try them in axle in hand before sticking them in car. If you can pop gear off CV shaft your good.

The Blue Flame ran hundreds of runs at the track with 4.10s on a rebuilt trac-lok with the circlips removed from the half shafts without any problems.

I'm currently running with out the c clips because I R dum.

Bought a track lock with out the beveled gears, and installed my axel's with the clips. Had to swap diffs last spring and we ended up cutting the S spring to remove the diff. So the axels went back in with out the clips. No issues yet.

JEremy fished out the clips one time on sharons diff with needle nose pliers. The bevels do not have to be perfect. Just smooth enough to compress the clips if you decide to remove the axels.
