Anybody know who the top MKVIII shops are in my area? I'm looking for a one stop shop for my performance upgrades!

What do you want done?

I'm familiar with these cars and will turn a few wrenches for a reasonable price.

Other places i can recommend are Alternative Auto in Mt. Clemens for tuning and Performance Fabrication and Engineering for exhaust, in harrison twp. I think either of those shops will do whatever you want for the right price, but it won't be cheap.

Don't do that.

Lidio at Alternative can do everything that Dennis can, and many people will say he can do it better. Do a quick search on the 'net for info on any prospective shop, especially before dropping your car off in another state. hint hint.

Hey Bill and sleeper

Bill, I havent had the MG in years. Needed V8 cars that do over 90 mph. Otherwise, I still have a soft spot for em.

Sleeper, Thanks! I want to do as much of the following as possible:

Chip and tune
driveshaft
true duals, headers, and good sounding mufflers
brake upgrade
underdrive pullys
plugs, wires?coil paks
maf
sway bars
...I know ;'m forgetting something...tired...you get the idea.

I've got almost 10 large into rims, meats, electronics, and cosmetics so far, so I'm definately willing to do it right. I'd probably be better off staying local. I thought Jeremi was going to buy my old wheels, havent heard back yet...so he is a good resource?

I'll have somme pics up soon, I hope!

I'll call Alternative. I juust don't have the luxury of running aroound, since I can only drive a car with hand controls, and the MK is my only ride right now.

Darn, I was hoping to see that MG.
Twin carbs AND chrome bumpers.

Glad to hear that you're considering getting your work done locally.

I don't think I'd call Jeremi a "resource" (Guru sounds better to me)..:)

Post those photos!

Chip and tune - Definitely alternative, Lidio tuned my car and Jeremi's car and we're both satisfied

driveshaft - order an MMC shaft from dennis, it will be drop shipped from dynotech in troy, but for some reason it's 5 or 10 bucks cheaper through dennis

you want gears too, maybe a converter. without gears the stock driveshaft should be fine.

true duals, headers, and good sounding mufflers - order the kooks headers, then have PF&E do the rest of the exhaust. Give them a call and ask how much to install the headers too. It's a big project, the k-member has to come out. I've done it on my car, and i can probably do it in a weekend for the right price (which would probably be less than a shop would charge). Should delete EGR when you do this, and secondary air injection if it's a gen 2. you will need a chip so that it doesn't throw a code when you delete EGR.

brake upgrade - you probably don't need a brake upgrade unless you plan on driving it on a road course. Good quality gen-2 rotors and ceramic pads are usually just fine for daily driving and dragstrip usage. But if it's a stock gen 1 i guess that's an upgrade.

underdrive pullys - still on my list to do. these are a small gain, i'd worry about them after the big stuff is out of the way. Or do them yourself one day when you want to abuse your knuckles. Not really the same bang for the buck as other stuff.

plugs, wires?coil paks - don't bother with fancy wires or coil packs. what year is your car? i'm assuming gen 1 from the wires and coil packs - 97 and 98 cars have coil on plug ignition. as for plugs just go one or two steps colder with a regular motorcraft copper plug. No performance to be had with platinum or any funky stuff NA. Might help with nitrous or a blower, i'm not sure.

maf - skip it unless you're getting a blower. stock MAF flows plenty for an NA motor.

sway bars - i'm not doing sway bars on my car, because of detroit roads. If i do i'll just go one step up on the rear bar so that the rear end is easier to rotate. If you want to do both sway bars i suggest doing the front at the same time as the headers, because the k-member has to come down for both.

I say get the exhaust, headers, converter, gears, and if it's a gen 2, an intake. Of course you'll need a tune. And some upgrades to the tranny, unless it's a '98. Will at least have to swap out the 1-2 and 2-3 accumulators (unless it's a 98).

Hey Dave,

It's a toreodor red '97 LSC.

When you get a few free minutes, could I bother you to call me? I am now more confused than ever.
