Where is the mileage stored on a 2nd gen MarkVIII

Just as the title says is the mileage stored on the odometer. Or is it stored in the cars computer. Are the speedometer clusters just plug and play from one vehicle to another. Or is programming at the dealer required? Did a search found no results.
Thanks in advance as always for you time and help in this matter.
Best Regards
Tony

With "LOD" Since 1997
The mileage is in the cluster, years ago an odometer programmer showed up on eBay and i am sure a lot have and still do. Much easier for people to reprogram the odometer with that tool vs rolling back a mechanical one.

Yes Steve i saw that on E-Bay, funny how the 30 40 50 thousand mile clusters. Fetch double and triple of what the 150k and up fetch.

Personally I like having a 245k + odometer. It's like a badge of honor.

There is no car in existence that shouldn't have it's wheels driven off. That's what they are for.

I agree cars are meant to be driven women are meant to be loved and cigars are meant to be smoked.
Collections are for those that think they are going to live forever.
