I am going to be making a few mods to my Mark VIII this year. So I want to show you guys what I have found for street drag radials, and I want to know what you think! Your opinions and suggestions are welcome!! IF you agree with one the tires I have thought of please suggest which size and why. For now I will retain the 3.27 rear ratio. I plan to go to either a 3.73 or a 3.90 ( if made) with trac-loc. I plan to drive these on the street and not just the drag strip. Mark

Toyo Tires Proxes TQ Size: P255/50R16 here is link to tire:

The second one is Proxes TQ Size: Size: P275/45R16 here is the link

I don't have any experience with the Toyo drag radials, but I didn't have any issues running 255/50R16 drag radials on the Blue Flame before I started running dedicated track tires.

Mark, I don't have any experience with the Toyos either but it is the same size drag radial(your first link 255-50-16) that I have ran since 2010. Judging by the description, I think they would probably work well for you at the track. The only less advantageous thing that I could speculate about them is that while the compound is softer than a street tire it is probably towards the harder side of soft, if you know what I mean. I simply can't see them performing like a Mickey or Hoosier for that price but for a mild setup you will probably be fine. On a stock car, you're definitely fine. Again, this is all speculation.

Don't go near those 275s. That tire is way too short and will likely cause issues with your traction control/abs system.

Thanks Kirk, :) I was searching for tires and for the price they caught my attention (about $153). Being on work comp I have to watch my pennys. :( If anyone has an idea on something I am all eyes and or ears. I have run Nitto drag' radials and have had mixed results.:frown:

The Proxy TQs are considerably better than the Nitto or BFG Radials, but not as good as the Mickey T's. If you are running them on stock wheels I would go with the 255s if you have a wider wheel the 275 will work, it is only 3/10 of an inch shorter than the 255.

Thank you very much for your input. I'm trying to save some money and yet have as good of tire as I can. I think I will go with the Toyo's Mark:thumbsup:

Yeesh, I probably would have ran these tires back in 2010 when I was running 14s. I think the Mickeys were probably overkill at that point.

All though I might be considered a noob, I'll still add my 2 cents...

On my old 97 which was totally stock, I ran some Toyo Proxys T1S 255/45/18 I believe.Yes I know these aren't considered a drag radial (Im assuming harder rubber), but they didn't hold up for squat.

I know people rag on the Nittos but to be honest my nto5r hook like no other and havent even started to show any real signs of wearing... all though my new ride doesn't have the blower quite yet, it still has more power and torque than the last car, and these softer drag radials are lasting better than the harder Toyos. Again these are the nto5r, not the 555s.

I've heard people say the Nittos are junk, dont hook, a waste of $ etc... but my personal experience with them has been great. I have all the traction you could imagine all though i have a feeling the twin screw will change that (no matter what rubber I have lol).

I can't speak for the NT05Rs as I have never ran them, I was talking about the 555Rs. But on your experience with the T1s, that is an Ultra High performance summer tire designed to perform in more than a straight line...they are only designed to last about 10k miles, you can't really cross shop that with a drag radial.

I know that they're a different breed of animal, but I assumed that the actual drag radial was softer than the T1s... I guess you learn something new every day (hence why i said I'm a noob). ;)
