While I was away

I have been gone from the forum for a little bit.
You see, I tried this new sport that I do not recommend at all... extreme bathing! I slipped trying to get out of the tub and I cracked 2 ribs and twisted my ankle. Not fun!

Anywho, while I was recovering we went to best buy to get a gift for someone and left with a 47 LG 3D and 3D Blu-Ray player and a few movies.
We looked at all the other 3D tvs they had there and they all sucked.
The other TVs had glasses that you have to have batteries in them. They are called "active glasses" They said the glasses flash super fast and that is how it makes the 3D. The LG is passive and the TV makes the 3D effect and you do not need batteries in the the glasses.
The glasses that came with the TV are super light and the look like high end sunglasses. They are not the ugly black frames. We do have those for guests.
You can use the ones you get at the movies too. This TV however, is MUCH better then what they have at the theater. I usually get head aches from the movie theater 3D but not with the LG! It feels so natural and the depth is just as amazing if not better. The super cool thing is that we are not limited to watching 3D movies! Somehow this TV reads what is coming into it weather it is regular TV or DVDs or even the Wii! Yes, I played Mortal Kombat in 3D!!!! Super cool!!! And Lucas says he is going to release one of the Star Wars movies in 3D once a year. Well Mr. Lucas... :fart I already watched all of them and it looked MUCH better then The Phantom Menace 3D.
I have to say, this is the COOLEST thing we have ever owned.
Not trying to make an advertisement here, just wanted to share with y'all what we got. To get it though, I had to loose my leg and almost 4 years worth of court and Dr.s to get my money. So, I guess you could say... This TV cost me and arm and a leg but, I go it for half price!! :D

Yeah, LG makes some pretty nice hi-def TV's. I have one standard 47" LCD and a 32" LED (which will go into the 5th wheel RV come 1st camping weekend) in the den. Both show beautiful pictures. The one for the RV will come back out in the fall.... no freezing temps for it!

I picked up the 55" LG LED HDTV last fall and absolutely love it! My daughter and I were playing mario kart in 3d which is a lot of fun. We actually just picked up 2 new 3d movies last night, how to train your dragon and a very 3d harold and kumar christmas. The only downside to 3d is the movies are SO expensive! $35 a movie is insane when the 2d blu ray is half the price.

Oh, I bet How to Train Your Dragon is great in 3d. We have become addicted qnd now have 3d movies. Mosty new ones. There are a lot that I hope they convert to 3d soon. Mostly I want to some movies from when I was growing up. Like maybe, Legend or Willow! How about Gremlins?! Lots of great fun movies they could and I hope do.
Did yall know that Directv has 4 3d channels? One of them is a moive channel and it plays mostly new movies. I think today they are playing the Immortals. That sucks too because we just got that movie and it was not worth the 26$ for it. I would have rather have paid the 6$ for it. Anywho, there are some pretty good shows oj the 3d channels. They start at channel 104 and go up to 107.
I was never really a fan of LG till now. They hit a home run with this TV for sure. I hope the 3d trend keeps going this time. They tried that when I was a kid bur that 3d was nothing like what this is.

Thanks for the "get well". Extreme bathing is enough to make a man afraid to take a bath! Wonder if my wife would mind  I know the dogs wont!

Well, they have the 3D tech that you can view without glasses and it is pretty good (not AS good but close) problem with it is you have to be directly in front of the screen in order to even see a clear picture and until they come out with full holograms it is always going to be that way because of how the screen is made to unscramble the picture to make it 3D. Kind of like the Nintendo 3DS hand held game. Buddy of mine that is co-owner of a pawn shop down the road has a such a TV that some one brought in a month ago. It is cool but again, only if your right in front of it. The LG 3D can be viewed from any angle and still give the full 3D effect. And the glasses are so light that you don't even notice them there. If you wear glasses we have these great clip ons so that you don't have to take your glasses off or double up on glasses. At this point, I prefer to watch TV in 3D. You see so much more and the detail is more then amazing. So yeah, I think we will keep this till they do come out with the full hologram technology. They have been working on it long enough! It's about time they get things going! LOL!
Can't wait for Football season to start up now!!!!!!!! Your all invited! Someone bring the salsa and the rest of you...bring the beer!!!

or we all just have to watch a 3D movie between now and then and keep the "dorky" glasses.

I have yet to purchase any sort of "flat screen" TV. it stands to reason that when I finally get around to doing so, it will be 3D capable.

Until then, my 27" Fischer Studio Standard from 1986 continues to operate flawlessly. For years, I've been telling my friends "when it catches fire, I'll replace it."

Wow! Does Fischer even make TVs anymore? I had two of them during my years.
Heck, I was telling my kids the other day how I was the remote for most of the years of my child hood! LOL! Then I would go to the TV turn the one dial... clunk clunk clunk. Then if nothing was on or coming in I would have to turn the dial on the antenna and start moving them around. If there was still nothing then I would have to turn the other dial on the TV. If all else fails it was coat hangers and me standing beside the TV helping it get reception. But, you know what...TV was also not something we did everyday either. Well, except for Saturday morning!!! Best cartoons back then!
I don't blame you! I too would keep it blew up or started leaking radiation or something tragic like that! LOL! Does that still have the tubes in it. I don't think it does but, if I remember right they were still making tube TVs back then. You had to let them warm up before the picture was really good. Ahhh, I miss those days some times. :)

Yes, I get ESPN in Real D 3D and what does not come on there I get on the NFL Network and can make it 3D with the push of a button.
I have 10 pairs of glasses and can get them by the box full on ebay for pretty cheap so, the glasses are on me. Well, not really ON me. If y'all are bringing the beer, I got the glasses!!

I'm assuming Fischer has been bought and sold a few times since mine was made, but it was top-of-the line in its day. full remote, fully digital tuner, two sets of analog inputs, one set of analog outputs, and connectors for external speakers.

it doesn't take long to warm up, and the picture is still fantastic.

But no. no 3D.

Hang on. I have to go buy some beer.

funny you mention that.

Yesterday I biked to my friend Rob's house, helped him brew a batch of beer, and biked home.

41 miles, round trip. It was a good day.
The beer? who knows. it was an "experimental" batch, and therefore only a half-batch. I didn't get to bring any with me.

Which I suppose is a good thing, as carrying 5 gallons of beer on a bicycle would be a challenge.

You could always wear one of those camel back packs and be drinking it the whole way home! Would that count as drinking and driving? Hmmm.

Okay so, I just watched Bad Religion on the Guitar Center Sessions on one of the 3D networks! They did a great job and it looked great well, mostly! I noticed one thing about one of my favorite bands since I was a kid and that was... they got old!!! Glad I didn't!
Being a punk rocker from a rather popular band from the midwest (we were called The Bruce Campbell Band) it was great seeing seeing one of my big influences on the Guitar Center and I loved hearing their story. I however know punk rock history so well that I think I was really ruining the show for my wife as I kept telling their story before they could get it out with a whole bunch of "did you know...." Oh well, it was fun and even funner to see it in 3D. Looked amazing!
I also realized that true punk rock is not dead! Nope, it is just old and balding! LOL!
Funny how we never thought we would get any older. That we would stay 20 forever!

Anywho, I am now watching American Pickers in 3D. It's cool but really, how cool can a bunch of junk in a barn be on 3D tv. I am still watching it though! LOL!
Wow! A 3D lamp from the 20's!!!

Oh, my wife said it was cool if everyone came over this football season but wonders where everyone will sit. I told her we are taking it out to the garage were the beer fridge is and the grill!!! HECK YA!!!!

I thought about doing a home brew before as I like a good thick beer! I like to eat my beer with a knife and fork! I just have to many projects to put time into making the perfect brew. It wold consume me and everything else would take a back burner till I got it right. So, i thought it best to leave that to the breweries.

I have just one thing to say.

BRUCE FREAKING CAMPBELL!

I can't say that I'm familiar with your band, but I am a big fan of the man himself. When "My Name is Bruce" played at a local theater, Bruce was there afterward to answer questions. I was there, and it was awesome.

I could go on about the beer, but I'll make that a different post. This one needs to shine on its own first.

For those who don't know who Bruce is, he was the star of the Evil Dead trilogy. Most people only one the last movie which was called The Army of Darkness. He is also leading extra in about every movie since 1980 and the voice of many a cartoon character. Really cool dude and from what I hear also an old school punk fan.
I am about to convert our tapes (yes, it was that long ago!!!) to digital. I only have 2 of our tapes but, I have a master tape from recording. It is unmixed but has some songs from our other albums. I'll get them posted when I do.

I look forward to partaking in that fine beer this football season when y'all come over!
Speaking of football, Payton Manning goes to the Broncos???! What in the world?! I am not a Colts fan (Go Falcons!) but, poor colts! They have a lot of work ahead of them! They have worked to hard over the years to build the team all around Payton. Lots of changes this year with many teams! Glad to see the Falcons are still pressing forward and really building a team! Maybe this year is our year!!!

Amp you are one funny guy with a great spirit! I hope you mend well from your extreme bathing :D I'm kinda surprised about your positive review on 3D TV, it sounded like quite the gimmick to me but you made me think twice about it now. Some PS3 in 3D would be SWEET!

Mike - How in the world are you still watching a 4:3 CRT TV!? I say this because I've had a Sony XBR3 40" LCD for a few years and just recently picked up a free Sony 32" WEGA for my old video games and couldn't believe how horrible the picture is and how many channels only broadcast in 16:9 now. You're REALLY missing out and that's coming from someone who barely watches TV!

Thanks for the kind words especially on such a rough day! You know, even though I have been through the ringer and continue to since Sept. 6th 2008 I figure, I can sit around and be all depressed about my disabilities or, I can have a positive attitude and do something to make a difference in someones life. Use this to bless others and have fun with it too.
Oh did I ever show y'all the t-shirts I design? They are pretty much just for amputees but, they are funny! I think up the phrases for the shirts. Well, my Mom pitched in for the Hopscotch Champ shirt. Here is the link:
www.zazzle.com/coreycola
I am always looking for new funny things to make into shirts. If y'all think about any feel free to share them and I may make them into shirts. Maybe I should start a topic for posting things to say on amputee shirts if y'all are interested in helping me think up new shirts.
I actually sell quite a few shirts every year. All the money goes to the Hope Foundation. I keep no money from them. So if you know an amputee these make great gifts! Well, assuming that the person has a positive attitude. Otherwise they can actually be very insulted by them. I don't understand that way of thinking but, some people just don't find any humor in their disability.

Anywho, we also discovered that if the TV program is in HD then it converts to Real D/3D with the image doing very much like the movies! If it is not in HD it just adds a little depth to it. Still looks good but not like the movies. This morning I watched the Flintstones in 3D on I think Cartoon Network. It looked great! The high contrast and defined lines really made it zing! Oh, I never noticed the texture in the walls of their stone house. Well, it really doesn't have any on a regular TV. It did in 3D and looked really cool.
I also just recorded The Adventures of Tintin 3D on one of the 3D movie channels. Going to watch it with the kids tomorrow!
I have to agree with you SCTBIRD. I thought when I heard about them that they would just flat out suck and not look anything like the theater or give you headaches and what not. And the other 3D tv's we saw that day were that. They just didn't have the same feel and who in the world would want to wear glasses that have AAA batteries in them? Heavy! That would give you an headache alone.
Then we walked over to the LG. They had glasses in a basket so that other could watch it. That is the other thing, the Samsung and Sony you can't view from any angle and get the 3D effect. You pretty much have to be right in front and to top it off, they cost the same as the LG. The LG you can sit way off to the side and still have the full effect. Only problem area we have found is if you have your TV up high and your sitting on the floor and trying to watch 3D. You can still see it just fine it is just that if their is a lot of movement it can make it look like the edges are a little blurry. But who watches TV like that anyways.
We had no intention of ever getting one of these TVs but now, don't think we will ever buy a regular TV again.
As you can tell, I don't have enough great things to say about this TV. Like I said before, it is the coolest thing we have ever owned and that compares it to several classic cars that I have owned. This thing is just way cool!
Lastly, besides a giant Star Wars fan I am also a fan of Mortal Kombat. My fav. is the MK Gold for the Saga Dreamcast. Yes, I still play a dream cast. I think they had some great games and where way ahead of their time. If the Dreamcast would have came out a year later it would have been a big hit. Just came out too soon. Anywho, back to what I was saying. LOL
The MK Gold was really designed and advertised to be 3D or, better yet, 3D like in that things (people) hit the screen and that you can fully move around in the arenas. Which at the time was unique to Deamcast. I hooked the Dreamcast up to the LG tv today and popped in MK Gold and turned on the 3D converter on the TV and WOW!!! It looks better then what MK looked on the Wii! Then we put in one of my kids games. It is call Toy Defender (I think) amazing! The Dreamcast has become a whole new toy now and I am keeping my eyes open for games to play on it! It blows the Wii away when it comes to 3D hands down!
We just keep finding cool stuff to do with this TV.
Wow! I sure talk a lot!!! LOL!! Must be the meds! Or it cold be that I just talk a lot!

I think my favorite is the "Shark Wrestler" one. :D

Bryan: as for the television, mine has never really bothered me. I even watched a house for a couple years that had a high-end 50" plasma, and going back to my old CRT didn't bother me much. My biggest problem with LCD/Plasma sets is now finally beginning to be addressed. (I think.) there were simply too many standards. every time you'd change a channel, the TV would pause, and stutter, and think, and do its best to make the picture fit the screen. it was slow, and often imperfect. Now that most everyone has chosen to standardize on one if the widescreen formats, things are better. (no more "fat" news anchors!) the old SD set was just so "speedy" by comparison.

So now when I do get around to buying one I'll get 3D thrown in for free, it would appear. :D

As for that dreamcast, I agree it was a fantastic platform. back in the days when I had friends renting rooms from me, one of them had a Dreamcast, and a massive selection of games. Apparently a "shady internet underworld" existed where people found a way to burn Sega's "GCD" format onto regular CDs. which could then of course be distributed on line as burn-it-yourself images.

I spent a lot of time playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.

LOL AMP those shirts are great! Everyone should have an outlook on life like you, the world would be a better place for sure!

IDK Mike those CRTVs are just missing all the sharpness of the HD pictures. Like I said I LOVED my old Sony Trinitron, I had it for a VERY long time but theres no going back now. :D

Dreamcast did seem like a great system that never caught on. I never got to play it, only Sega Master System, Genesis, and Sega CD. Honestly once PS1 came out in 95 I was a Sony fanboy and still am to this day. I LOVE the Playstation platform.
