Winter is Upon Us

I once lived in a snow bound area and had a 1969 LTD with bald tires that emulated an M1A2 tank in the snow. On the other side I had a 1988 Thunderbird that I "believed" was the worst vehicle ever made for driving in snow.
Yet yea I was mistaken.... Never had man or God leached forth such an snow traveling abonimitation as the MKVIII.
My car has been stuck in my shoveled driveway while trying to reverse "down hill." Twice!!. Threw dirt, rocks, sand under that thing, .... got out (while in gear) to look at the rears spinning at an idling pace. Took hot water to move the thing.
Unbelievable,... I did a 360 on an 8 lane highway during rush hour and did no damage. To you small road drivers,... that's a near physical impossibility.
That was the end!!! Now I run two complete sets of tires. Street Michelins from about March to November, and then a full set of Blizzacs (sp?) From December to March.
Blizzacs are squirrely,. but they do harness the beast . Have to give them a thumbs up.
Save you lucky Southern Folk,... How are the rest of us dealing with it?

I find that the Mark VIII is actually quite awesome in the snow. But, I am a firm believer in there being no such thing as all season tires. I have a set of General branded snow tires for the winter and some decent Falcon tires for the summer.

Plus my Mark won't ever see the salt laden highways in this little Milling town.

I should be putting the Blizzaks I ordered on the Navigator soon. All season tires don't cut it where we live in the winter, even with 4WD.

I've got some Firestone Winterforce snow tires on my winter Mark VIII now, they're a pretty good tire.

And yes, the Mark VIII is great to drive in the winter.

Here's a shot of my first Mark VIII, on a frozen lake, those were Hankook snow tires, I still have those for back up's.:)

I'm originally from the Pennsylvania Coal Fields an were ya' hit with snow like a pimp smacks his "employees." Here in Delaware, it's anyone's gamble... Maybe two years in a row with a 1 or 2 inches,.. then WHACK! You're hit with 2ft. every other other week.
Right now,.. it's my only ride, so having to prepared,... it's the Blizacs on ALL four wheels.
