So my neon hasn't worked since i got my Mark last year. It wasn't a problem on the top of my list. This summer I removed it to try and diagnose the problem.
For starters after pulling back the wire loom, the insulation on the wires was dry rotted to the point of cracking. I didn't see any evidence of a short, but i still suspect something along those lines.
Second of all, I used a jumper to check voltage at the connector (vehicle side) and I seemed to be getting less that 12 volts. Automatically I sighed in (relative) relief, I figured that my wiring was screwed and that the ballast and neon were most likely in operational condition. Although it is possible that my jumper was not getting a solid connection between my multimeter and the wire(s) in question.
To verify, I removed the assembly and connected a 12 volt source to my ballast. Now it flicks on really quick and back off. I had it on a switch, and it will consistently do this. I searched but couldn't find any info on bench testing the ballasts.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. I have a feeling there is more than one problem here but I figured maybe someone else here has seen a similar condition.
