Weber Genesis Gas Grill

My Weber Genesis electronic ignition quit working. It doesn't look too hard to fix, but has anyone done this before? Which part is bad and needs replacing? Is it the switch button or the piece inside the burner box, or both?

I can't smoke any more tenderloins until this gets fixed. Can you imagine the shame I'd suffer from being seen manually lighting it? LOL

RE: Weber Genesis Gas Grill

Nice...but mine was free...We got ours from our credit card company, they have a wonderful reward program. Last year they bought the diffrential for my car. We also had a stainless grill option, but we would have had to wait, so I chose this route and have been very happy with it. That is nice though...

RE: Weber Genesis Gas Grill

I've given up on gas, it's charcoal or you might as well cook indoors for me. The only thing I still had that was gas was my smoker, which got plenty of wood flavor from all the smoking woods. During my move I determined it was too rusty to deal with and tossed it out. Now I have three propane tanks and nothing to to connect them too.

I use a charcoal chimney for starting the grill, it's great! Fast, clean and cheap (no fluid.)

Thank you, Joel. The only way to cook outdoors is with charcoal. This is not arguable.

<buzzzzz> Wrong. Hickory wood. Sometimes Mesquite. Just enough charcoal to get the wood burning. 12 hours later, the ribs are ready.

RE: Weber Genesis Gas Grill

David, I will amend myself this much: "charcoal is the only way to cook outdoors, except, for certain foods, it is appropriate to use wood-but only for select menus".

RE: Weber Genesis Gas Grill

Its the wire or the tip of the wire (ceramic insulated). The button rarely goes bad.

I replaced my ceramic tip with an old lawn mower spark plug. I cut off the old tip, stripped the wire back and connected it to the spark plug. I jammed the spark plug under the stainless steel burner and voila... it's worked for years!

Last time I looked, the piezo ignitors are cheap and you can get them from any decent hardware store. They are handy for building potato cannons as well as repairing grills (or so I'm told.)

Y'all come on down to my house on the lake. We will be having the 15th annual Blue Marlin Tournament and Buffalo Shoot. I will be cooking 2 140 lb pigs for the occasion. No gas cookers will be used. Hickory and charcoal will be. BYOB.

RE: Weber Genesis Gas Grill

Good news! I decided to practice what I preach and jiggled the wires and applied a coat of WD-40 on the connections...it works again! I think I'll take off the connections and apply some dielectrical grease to them.

As far as charcoal versus gas, I prefer to pick my carcinogens. I would rather enjoy a cigar than charcoal tasting food, especially since I can smoke my food and the cigar and only get carcinogens from the cigar.

As far as the other grills, you can keep the Ducane. Before I bought the Weber I did some homework and the Ducane was just overpriced for the performance. The stainless looks nice but the grill didn't perform as well as the Weber. As for the other grills, I'm not familiar with them, so I can comment.
