it's always SOMETHING

Whenever I have the money and time to do something I WANT to do for my car, something happens and I MUST do something else.

Last time, I wanted to put on the exhaust, and my radiator springs a leak.

Today, I am scheduled to take it in to get painted (yes! thank you state farm!) and I hit the hugest hole ever, my alignment is off now and there is a golf-ball sized knot on the side of my tire!!!! Great ##### ##### stupid #####ing ##### hole in the road!!! Well, its gonna have to sit like that until after it gets painted, it should be OK with that tire like that just sitting in a garage for a few days...shouldn't it?

If you're worried about it, you could grab the scissor jack and take the weight off the car.

I drove a loaded uhaul 30+ miles with a baloon on the side of the tire once... uhaul told me they wouldn't send out a service guy unless it blew, so I should drive it to the service center and they would fix it, or if it blew they would send someone out...

it made it.

RE: it's always SOMETHING

You got off easy. My dad just hit something in the road on the highway in his '02 Bravada. It blew a hole in the rim. Yes, a hole, in the rim, as well as the tire. 17" chrome wheels. List is something like $550 per. The insurance company would have covered it, but as an at-fault accident, so he's paying for the rim out of pocket. He knows the guy who owns the dealership, though, so he might get a few bucks knocked off.

Your tire is toast, so it doesn't matter if it sits on that tire for a few days or a week or a year. As long as it doesn't go flat and the car doesn't get driven on the rim, it's not going to matter if you fix it now or after the paint job. If you have a road hazard policy on the tires, they should give you a new one pretty cheap. If not, get road hazard on the new ones.

RE: it's always SOMETHING

I don't know if I have road hazard coverage or not. I think I might, I'll have to look. I just hope it is only tire damage, the rim looks ok, that's all I've had time to check out. I wanted some new tires anyway, but not yet!

So I was going to have the body/paint shop make some cutouts in my rear bumper, but now I think I'll not do that (to save some $$) because I need to buy tires (x_x)

Just go buy a used tire to hold you over. You'd be suprised how good of a tire you can get for $30 or so...

Dave
H'mm your both Dave.
I thought we in Michigan just had craters in the road. Not in a state like nebraska
Yes road hazard is worth the cost in Michigan

Better luck :+

RE: it's always SOMETHING

it sure may suck up there, but you don't have a monopoly on ice and snow! or road construction, or untrained snow-plow drivers. We have competitive positions in all of these areas harhar!

Last month I hit a pothole here in NYC an it collapesed the whole front suspention on my Bronco II.

Altho we are over 100 miles from the nearest 4 lane
of any kind, we have pretty good roads.
The main thing you have to worry about around here is
T-Boneing a big doe. --/ "====&&______. :( State Farm is
expensive, but pays off when it comes time )

I got one last winter, 5 AM, late for the job, etc.
$2200 damanage, to plastic bumper and foglights, (didnt even
dump my coffee)
Go Figure??

not really related to your tire but...

A few days to paint the car? The place I went to told me two weeks but it was really ten weeks and then another ten weeks to fix all the stuff they screwed up. I hope you have better luck than I did and I hope this does not burst your bubble. :)

RE: it's always SOMETHING

Probably about 6 days is what I have been told.

The guy is a 30yr veteran of body work and painting. Got laid off last year, and setup his own shop at home. Does one car at a time, usually pretty major restorations on classics. So the little hail damage and body rust is a piece of cake for him. With no other projects to distract him, he can get the job done in a reasonable time.

10 weeks? Did they really spend 400+ hours on your car? I'm guessing, probably not. It probably spent a lot of time waiting... hopefully as his only project there won't be any waiting around.

Yea, I am sure my car sat around on their back burner for most of the time it was there. It was torture. Your place sounds like the kind of setup I will seek out for the next car. Good luck with the work.
