What is up with the gas prices???

Sometime last week gas jumped from 1.85 a gallon (wasn't this low for over a year) (premium) to somewhere at 2.09. A few days ago I got gas for 2.29$ a gallon. For crying out loud i'm 60 miles away from one of the largest refineries in california !! :) Well at least i'm not in Arizona, i heard its up to 4$ a gallon there right now.

The last 3 days in Jersey gas skyrocketed. Premium is $1.80 middle grad $1.70 and regular $1.60. 3 weeks ago PREMIUM was $1.60 !! It's called pre- Labor Day Weekend Gouging and I think they set some of the oil well ablaze over there.

Well, here in cali they are blaming it on:

The blackout (like they are going to ship any oil that friggin far)
The gas line break in AZ (yeah, thats relevant, its not even the same kind of gas)
Taking MTBE out of the gas (which cost us $.20 to put in)
Summer Driving Season because everyone waitied to go on vacation because of the "war"
The pipe line bombing in Iraq.....

Gas prices get me really riled up.

That trash in AZ is pretty crazy. All the local (norcal) stations were running a clip of a woman screaming obsenities at some other guy saying if she couldn't have gas, he couldn't either.... no idea what it was about, but it was worth a laugh the 75 times I saw it.

Actually, it is the same.
In Maricopa County, we have to use the same crappy stuff (April - October).
Two-thirds of our supply is piped in from CA.
The have increased this supply, diverting it from you.

The EPA just gave us an emergency 45 day reprive from the MTBE stuff.
They should have southern pipe working again next week.

Prices have soared in New York City also. Some stations are charging close to $3 per gallon. We don't have any lines yet at the stations fortunately.

As a young teen during the gas crisis of 1974, I remember standing in in a long line of cars to get gas for my father's car with my bicycle with a 5 gallon can. I was the only bicycle in that line. Why waste gas to get gas?

Only $1.94(amoco ult.) here in Dela-where?
Last week it was $1.73 a gallon.
I dont even look at prices,cause I use the same station,and NEED gas,but the 20 cent increase in 6 days caught my attention.

Sorry to hear AZ has the same crappy gas. The local TV stations said it was federally reformulated MTBE, not Cali Reformulated, whatever the difference is.

Hope you get to get rid of it... its nasty stuff.

At least it sounds like the pipeline is back open....

I tell ya my car gets really crappy gas mileage to begin with, 13.5 if I'm lucky but I don't really trust how accurate the comp is, my guess is its around 12 averaged out cause I do change my driving style alot. gas for me went up 20 cents in about 3 days.. I was pissed cause I'm probally into 30-35 bucks a week in gas.. thats alot of damn money. I might start walking certain places or getting a bike, I can still pedel for free.

They are around $2 a gallon for super here in Bucks County, PA, about a .30 hike. Tell me they have to raise the price to make up for loss revenue? THat's just like the cigarette co's passing the taxes onto the smokers. jeez.

Anyway, a while back someone posted a list of American and Foreign gas co's, anyone have that list handy?

I went from $1.55 to $1.95 OVERNIGHT for 93 octane up here. Told myself 'I would just fill up on the way out tommorrow.' Bad move...

Anyways, the part thats worse is that AVGAS 100LL is up to $3.50 a gallon....

at $4 a gallon, i would still not drive a honda.

I paid $2.40 a gallon for midgrade this weekened. That's on the water though, where prices average about $.50 higher than on land. It's kinda cool seeing the expression on my friends faces when we go out with my dad on his boat. "oh, i got a half a tank, i'll just fill up while i'm here". Fills one tank (out of 2) which was half full to begin with.. "what'd it take?" "$140" Two 100 gallon tanks at $2.40 a gallon is no fun. :). I used to nag him to let me take that boat out myself, now i realize i can't even afford the gas so why bother.

All i know is that on the lincoln, if gas prices go up $.10, it's an extra buck and a half when i fill up. That's not that much money.

Wow, sounds like a nice boat though. My parents jsut bought a 20.5 footer, that has a 40 gallon tank - and I thought that was expensive to fill.

Pre purchased 1000 gallons of it at 2.65 a gallon. I got a big smile on right now :)

Time to trade the mark in for a real Mustang... a horse...I'll have to take out a loan to keep the mark going...guess I'll start driving my 97 ranger,with the 4cyl.

I just noticed gas at the station down the street from where i live is 2.039 now for premium. That kinda sucks. Say hello to $30+ fillups. :(

My dad's boat is a 38 foot 1968 Chris Craft Commander. It's a cruiser with a hardtop. It has twin 454's, and when you open up the 4 barrels, you can hear them sucking the air in and the money out of your pocket. Burns like 32 gph at cruise, at about 20-25 mph. So it gets about .7 mpg.
