Lets talk about this

How in any way shape or form was my second post in violation of the rules??

The first post being removed was stupid at best, but I wont talk about it anymore because by the letter of the law it was against the rules.

But to remove the second one JUST becasue I complained about the first one was wrong. This isn't the first time one of my posts have been removed. And then when I try and get a reason for it,since the moderators dont EVER have the courage to PM me and give me an explanation, the second one is removed as well.
This is as rediculous people,as it is unacceptable.

This time around Trixie and I were trying to get people to discuss changing the ROC so that this crap wont happen again. But what happens? Its deleted without a single mention as to why.Again this is unacceptable.

So Splat you say we need to have a change in the ROC.I'm calling for one right now.Either that, or a call for a new moderator with a less itchy trigger finger, and or the courage to tell people why their posts that they took the time and energy to make, are being deleted.

I hope this post last long enough to let the members of the LOD read it and respond with their thoughts.I haven't broken any ROC's but that didn't matter last time.

If this post gets removed, consider me removed from the LOD.

RE: Lets talk about this

I've seen posts deleted or threads locked for basically no reason that I could see. Maybe rules were broken that I didn't know about, but I do think that the person making the post should be told why their post is being deleted.

RE: Lets talk about this

I understand that your first post was against the ROC, but not the intent of the rules. Your second post, i wondered where it went. But then again, i just use "read new" so i figured maybe nobody replied to it. I don't know why it was deleted. You should at least get an email or PM with a reason when you get a post deleted, so you know what not to do again, if for no other reason.

RE: Lets talk about this

Thanks guys.At least some people here have some common sense.

There was nothing in the second post that was against the ROC.Splat thought it was argumentative.

To me it was exactly like something Calvin would have done.In my eyes it was clearly out of line.

But lets not dwell on what was done.Lets talk about what changes we should make to the ROC so this stuff doesn't happen again.

RE: Lets talk about this

I'll agree. I also see why sometimes it's tough being a moderator, and that back in the day I might lock or move a thread just to avoid possible trouble, but then the difference here is it can be reinstated, or talked about or whatever. Sometimes it is hard to make those calls, and I don't think they are made lightly.

I've had the chance to mod with Splat here and on the political board, and I have to say, he takes his job seriously, and he is one of the best mods I've ever seen in action.

I can see both sides of it, and I do agree that posts shouldn't be deleted without explanation - but I remember, sometimes it used to take me a while to write to someone, and the board wasn't even as active back then. Chris, good attitude, let's move forward. Who wants to start the ROC discussion in members only? ;-)

RE: Lets talk about this

I agree...I'm on your side, Chris...sometimes the moderators are heavy handed, for no apparent reason...

RE: Lets talk about this

Chris,
Your not the only one who has this problem. I got a post deleted yesterday for posting a link to another site that mentioned no names or anything that would have offended anyone here. yet someone must have been feeling guilty or something and cried to a mod and the post was removed. its ##### and for that reason this is my last post here. I'm done with this place. It never did and never will take off like the old place used to be. Guess if you contribute money you have more of a say here. typical.
Mods, you can delete my account now.

RE: Lets talk about this

On the contrary, this site has grown 100X faster than the old site and is and will always be free. We're not even showing up in the search engines yet...

RE: Lets talk about this

too many rules... too many whiners... too much self esteem attached to how eloquently one expressed oneself on an internet forum... lighten up people it's not like anything said or not said here really matters much in your real life is it?

I propose this rule:

"don't be an a-hole and you won't get banned"

how many more rules than that do we really need?

and why aren't we in the seach engines? I made a post on a martial arts forum and a few days later a google search on the same topic hit that very post.

Of course not!!! (Just improperly dressed. Please read Dress-Code Rules ~ BEFORE posting!) :) :)

RE: Lets talk about this

I have been to so many car forums, and yet to find one as strict as this one.

I fear the complexity of the rules will result in the self-destruction of the club. I really hope it does not, but it sure pisses a lot of people off, and those who made these strict rules will end up here posting to themselves all day.

You may find that to be rude not true now, but if we don’t put a stop to it, it will become that way.

I feel that we need to lose some of this formal stuff we have going on, it feels like I’m going to a meeting, not somewhere were I can hang out, and talk my mind out (within limits of course). And all I’m saying is, most of us are sick and tired of the tux scene, and want to be more relaxed.

**SNAP** **SNAP**

I agree completely. However, the other boards/clubs that I am part of are comprised primarily of people with a lesser degree oif maturity, than what si the norm here. However, on that note, I, also having had posts removed, must say that it seems like a game here. I can just picture it... "My little red guy overtakes ALL of your little green guys..."

On the flip side, your life worth is not determined from what people in your car club think of you. After all, we are all here because we share a SINGULAR common interest: Our Marks. In all aspects of life, im sure most of us are quite different from one annother, but there is no need to attack/avoid/delete/remove/block someone's feelings, veiws or oppinions, especially when they are in an open forum. If you don't like what the person has to say, click the little button on your screen that says 'Back,' or if you feel it necesary make a CONSTRUCTIVE argument or comment, do so.

Spark Notes: Don't delete posts, grow up, be NICE!

RE: Lets talk about this

I can't see how you think this is so strict here. Many other sites are tightly controlled by one or two people and they arbitrarily delete posts, threads, and suspend people with no set of rules whatsoever. How can you possibly think this site is stricter than the old one which is governed by a single dictator who literally ripped off everything on the site?

Actually the ROC where set up to keep the board from falling into total chaos and I think they have succeeded very well to that end. Sure, not everyone will be happy all the time about a post deleted here or there but hey, it really is not that bad guys. We have a group of extroverts here with some very strong personalities, some control is needed.

RE: Lets talk about this

It is stricter here than a lot of the other sites i frequent. I've been checking out the www.s10forum.com lately, since i have a blazer for a beater, and some of those fockers are really stupid, not to mention immature. I recently registered and posted on a neon board too, since i'm fixing a neon for a lady at work. The maturity level there is a couple notches down from here.

I wish a few more things would slide around here, perhaps some looser language occasionally, and the ebay posts, but only because i don't think that would really hurt the board. The level of maturity on this board is such that even if we're a little looser with the rules, this board will still be more "upscale" than markviii.org, not to mention most of the other boards out there.

Leo, I really think you need to go outside the Mark Websites.

In other website, it’s so open, and nice, people post SOOOOOOOO much more, people join today, a week later they have 200 posts, number guys here still don’t have yet. Numbers are not the point, but when these rules start cutting down on participation, then you have to draw the line.

Please check out www.crownvic.net
I was from the first people to join, and the very own guys that signed up with me have racked between 5,000-20,000 posts. Any thread will get 50+ replies, regardless, it may not be quality, but you sure feel like the board is alive. Here I roam day and night to find a topic I can participate in.
They have a NON-MODERATED section called "smoking lizard lounge" where you can say ANYTHING you want, and it’s only accessed by members. If you don’t like the content, either argue about it, or get out. No one complains.

So if we can’t do many things here, we are going somewhere else to do it, and as days go by, posting goes down (like what’s going on now) and people just don’t post much. We all know what happens then.

Okay, now im going to the members only to see whats going on.

RE: Lets talk about this

for an example of a very strict site, see www.e-budo.com they enforce rules such as - Your full name in every post, no unsupported slanders, etc (the site tries to act as a watch-dog over martial arts instruction, outing frauds and criminals, so they are careful to avoid lawsuits).

As an example of the worst aspects of an out-of-control forum, go to www.bullshido.com. This site claims the same lofty goal as e-budo, but the mods enforce no rules, not even the few thay have specified. It is populated by what under any other circumstances would be Trolls - rude, abusive, ignorant people with no manners, who post any crap they feel like just to start an argument.

I don't really care for either site. I prefer www.martialartsplanet.com, which has a few rules, they are lightly enforced, because most of the people there are smart and well mannered; and when a troll starts trouble he is quickly banned. Instead of locking a thread or deleting posts the mods will post "wet blanket" messages - "You guys need to mind your manners and not post stuff like so-and-so did which was over the line"... and the discussion goes on.

RE: Lets talk about this

What exactly does **SNAP** **SNAP** mean or imply? I'm one of the mature people and I'm afraid I don't follow. :)

Maturity, by the way, is an interesting concept. For the most part it has little to do with chronological age. I've seen seven y/o kids in martial arts classes demonstrate a higher level of maturity than a lot of 20 y/o's. I've also seen people my age, 55, act like a seven y/o.

I just hate to see people in turmoil and at each others throats at a place that should be fun and relaxing.
