Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

Today's Automotive News announces that on the coattails of the Blackwood, Lincoln will do yet another truck. Another Pick-up to be exact. This time it will be a spin-off of the Ford F-150 (the new re-design) with an Avaitor/Navagator "family" grille. 2005 is the year. Name has not been announced. This will be truck # 3 From a Division who says, "What a Luxury C*A*R Should be" ??? CAR ??? We have but 2 cars. Hyundai & Kia have MORE cars !

In related article it tells that Ford is about to DEMAND a 3.5% cut in prices from all vendors of parts Ford uses in their cars.

This will result in more inferior & crappy parts, along the lines of GEN I headlights, and GEN II Blend Doors. Do you think for a moment that the Vendors are gonna suffer? Heck, NO! The ultimate user will suffer when the cheaply made part goes bust, tying the car up for 2 weeks repairs followed by squeeks/rattles from dis-assembly & then re-assembly with 7 "left-over" screws the Tech toss's into the trash bin.

Across the street, the headline says "GM gives up on any share gains" ~ Oldsmobile is down to producing 2,800 cars a week, while Nissan is building at the rate of 20,000 a week !

Toyota's Camry plant in Ky is now in its 9th of 25 years of paying no property taxes to that state, and no income taxes to that state.

As I see it, 75% of it all is our government's fault. All kinds of relief and credits to foreign manufactrer's and upping the taxs and requirements on the domestics.

Ford needs Lutz, or Iacocca. Just because his name happens to be FORD, does not make him anything special in the ability department. Shoot the bean counters, hire designers, like Mercedes pay the highest prices (Lexus, too) and have the part made as perfect as humanily possible. At the present rate, Ford will colapse & need a European partner by 2015 and GM will follow with a couple of years. As Chryser was consumed by M-B, so shall Ford (probably Nissan) and
GM (probably Toyota) be "lunched" - Danoz will have the last laugh on me, as America loses it's title as the industrailized manufacturing giant of the world, and massive recession/depression moves over our land, which Japan & China will emerge as the new world powerhouses and WE will answer to them.

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

That's a little over the top Sandy....don't you think?

Even if this country never made a car again, I would doubt that we will "answer" to Japan and China. We will be the high-tech leaders of the world for a long time to come.

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

Can we win a war or defend our country if all we are is "the high tech leader of the world"? Could we manufacture weapon systems if we have no manufacturing facilities? Could we import these products if there was a shipping blockade or shipping routes were targeted by our enemies? If we don't have any manufacturing plants will our enemies know this and use this to their advantage?

This is a dangerous world we live in. Please don't forget it.

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

Thats how things started in WW II

I think we did pretty well in that one, dont you?

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

Yippee, another truck. I was just thinking we needed another American truck on the market, because it's so hard to find one nowadays.

Seriously, though, I wonder what Lincoln is going to do to make sure it doesn't flop as hard as the Blackwood. I wish they were as stubborn about making a 2-door Lincoln marketable.

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

The Blackwood was only 2WD. The new one will be 4WD
The Backwood was equipped with a carpeted bed, the new one will be traditional fiberglass.
The Blackwood's bed cover (tonneau) was power operated (only) and only rose up about 3 feet. The forward part (nearest the cab) was nearly unreachable, and therefore useless, as the angle of the tonneau was like this: / but not that sharp of a rise, much more laid down. The new one will not come with any tonneau.
The Blackwood had a bed lined with electroluminescent lighting, similiar to florescent lighting. The new one won't. It will continue the 4-door route. Probably $55,000 loaded... ?
There is seemingly NO coupe on Lincoln's future. Convertible? What's that?
The new Monterey (Mercury) Minivan is also off to a very poor start. Anybody seen one??

If you don't believe the trade deficit is not selling off our future, read the November 10, 2003 Fortune Magazine ( http://www.fortune.com ) article on page 106 where Warren Buffet explains "America's Growing Trade Deficit Is Selling the Nation Out From Under Us. Here's a Way to Fix the Problem—And We Need to Do It Now." It is no coincidence that the large increase in foreign acquisition of US assets has paralleled the exponential growth of the US trade deficit.

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

Joey, WWII was a completely different set of circumstances!

At that time, we WERE the leader in manufacturing, and every company in America was owned and controlled by Americans.

Food: You are in the food business. If you were in New York every potato that came thru your place of business would do so via a potato conglomerate owned by a Japanese Corporation, headquarted in Japan. Yes, they were grown here, by American farmers, but before they can be sold to you.....they have to be random tested to make sure they meet certain standards (??) BEFORE they can be certified as eatible. Who owns the testing and certifaction company?? Dong Chu Hong. WE Americans can't do this? We put men on the moon and cured Polio, but we can't inspect the potatoes we grow???

CBS. You like CBS ? They are owned by SONY. WHO owns Sony?
Pebble Beach Golf Club?? In California? The Japanese Minestry owns it.
Rockerfeller Center, Ice Skating Rink. Who Owns it? Sony !!
I'll stop, cause I have a book of over 200 more golf courses and AMERICAN industries that have been gobbled up by Japanese Corporations!

Question....What do WE Americans own in Japan???
N*O*T*H*I*N*G ~ ~ ~ We are NOT allowed to, by Japanese law!!!!!!

That is the reason I will never own a Japanese car, no matter how supurb wonderful terrific they may be. I'll honor the lives lost of young Americans fighting for this country, and I'll gladly drive what others consider to be 2nd best.

Sandy - don't you see this is EXACTLY what Ford wants? It's called "planned obsolescence". Make the parts last barely through warranty, then keep the dealers in business by charging customers exorbitant prices for service and parts. (I just read somewhere that service alone now accounts for over 75% of dealer income.)

Then the ultimate shaft - force customers to buy more new cars sooner because repairs get too expensive to maintain them anymore. What Ford apparently doesn't see how penny wise - pound foolish this approach is...people are just going to migrate to better built vehicles from other manufacturers...

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

Plus, they've got you by the shorts!
You see, the majority of people who purchase, can usually afford to buy new at the end of the new car warrantee. It's the poor guy than can't ... and then he gets it bad, as parts fail, and little by little the exhorbinant costs of repairs to items that cannot be fixed, but only replaced, and then entire systems, and he can no longer afford his car! So, he gives up and buys new. Mission accomplished!

Leasing. Awwe 4-get it. Too long to go into. The ultimate shaft !

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

I own shares in Honda & Toyota. Some of their profit comes to me. Does that make me Japaneese? Why don't you join me in buying their companies?

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

Yup, what we need is yet ANOTHER truck in the United States. I wonder if Ford / Lincoln understands that people don't want a luxury vehicle with a bed, whether it be the Blackwood or a pick-up. Those who want a pick-up truck will go for a $25,000+ F-150 or one of its competitors such as a Ram or Silverado, etc.

The U.S. economy sucks right now. Ford's stock is down to around $10 or so. Ford now has a lot of employees who were banking on retirement with their STOCK PLANS. What now? The big wigs are still receiving their million-plus dollar bonuses. The employees get NO bonus. They bank on that. Employees such as my father have always banked on their $10,000+ bonus which was ZERO last year, even though they're now considered "merit" bonuses.

Screw the new trucks--develop something people will WANT and people will BUY. What would be wrong with a 2-door Lincoln coupe or convertible? That new Cadillac convertible is selling. Lincoln could develop the "LS-C" with a 300+ hp V8, smooth lines, and a price tag under $35,000. Drop all the stupid high-tech stuff and relive the 60's with raw horsepower and some luxuries. I know that's still quite a bit of money, but I believe there is a market for that right now, economy and all.

My two cents...which is all I can afford after losing $500 at the dice table in less than 45 minutes.

Then how do you explain all the EXT's rolling around on "dubs" or "double-dubs"?

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

People, dont you get it? Its a circle. It starts the day you are born and given a "number". If anyone here thinks they can own or control anything on this planet, just curl up and go back to where you came from.
....we put a man on the moon. yea... ok. dont get me started on THAT sham too.
Its all about the dollar. Buy what you want. Dont buy what you dont want. The only 'control" we will ever have, is what we do in the dark, and the way technology is taking over, what we do in the dark is no longer a secret anymore either.
Keep smoking that dream they offer you. Get as high as you can. because reality is way too sobering for most people to fathom.

I see. Sounds like they're aiming squarely for the Escalade EXT, which isn't a bad plan. I was surprised at how well that truck was received. Hopefully Lincoln can make it work for them.

There is seemingly NO coupe on Lincoln's future.

Then there will be no money of mine going to Lincoln in the future :) I guess I'll be forced to look at their competitors. If that's how they want it...

Those who want a pick-up truck will go for a $25,000+ F-150 or one of its competitors such as a Ram or Silverado, etc.

That's what I said then they brought out the Blackwood. I was right. That's also what I said when they brought out the Escalade EXT. I was dead-wrong on that one.

Screw the new trucks--develop something people will WANT and people will BUY.

People want and will buy trucks. They're extremely hot right now. Which really sucks for those of us that want to buy a nice American car.

Lincoln could develop the "LS-C" with a 300+ hp V8, smooth lines, and a price tag under $35,000.

I'd be first in line :)

Drop all the stupid high-tech stuff and relive the 60's with raw horsepower and some luxuries.

I doubt we'll see an "entry-level" Lincoln (IMHO); I think they pride themselves on keeping the brand "pure" luxury. Makes sense, considering there's already Ford and Mercury for entry and near-luxury. I've heard rumors the new Mustang is going to have options like seat heaters - if that's true, maybe there will be some other luxury options. Sounds like something I'd be interested in.

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

There's NO Coupe over at Cadillac now, either - unless you've got $77,000 to drop, or can handle a $1,500 monthly car payment after $20,000 down!

After a Mark VIII you'll feel like a foot in a shoe in a 3-Series Coupe and Volvo dropped its C70 Coupe. We "Coupers" are a lost breed. That's why I surcummed & bought the Town Car. No choices, buy what the masses buy, or else.

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

I don't consider the EXT or Escalade luxury -- been in them, they suck. I Didn't enjoy the ride at all...only thing luxury about those vehicles is the price tag. :)

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

My bro at Ford told me the cost to replace the bed on the Blackwood is about $35000. That bed assembly is all one piece. I sat in one at the dealership the other day. They are ok. Basically just a blacked out interior with the Lincoln style appointments. They're cool but not worth the extra cash. Maybe someday they will be valued like Marks, but be careful not to gouge the bed if you get one.

RE: Lincoln to bring in ANOTHER Truck !!

i think the real problem is the attitude that there is nothing wrong with putting an american flag sticker in the back of your camry. People seem to support the US when it's ass kicking time, but have no clue how their actions or spending habits affect the US when everything is calm.

On another note americans that want to get rich quick would not consider manufacturing, they would rather play the stock market, get allocations on ipo's (yes i did watch pbs the other night, and the ipo thing doesn't fly anymore, but it's a good example) or rent out the houses that skyrocketed in value so much they were able to buy another house. Basically the american way of getting rich is to profit through victimization wether the people know it or not (the people getting rich).

I'm just half babbling maybe someone can make some coherence out of the above, but back on topic.

I want a truck without an extended cab, an 8 foot bed that I can chuck firewood into from 15 yards away and 4 wheel drive. That's all I need in a truck, oh and maybe the ability to pull a decent amount.
