Today's Automotive News announces that on the coattails of the Blackwood, Lincoln will do yet another truck. Another Pick-up to be exact. This time it will be a spin-off of the Ford F-150 (the new re-design) with an Avaitor/Navagator "family" grille. 2005 is the year. Name has not been announced. This will be truck # 3 From a Division who says, "What a Luxury C*A*R Should be" ??? CAR ??? We have but 2 cars. Hyundai & Kia have MORE cars !
In related article it tells that Ford is about to DEMAND a 3.5% cut in prices from all vendors of parts Ford uses in their cars.
This will result in more inferior & crappy parts, along the lines of GEN I headlights, and GEN II Blend Doors. Do you think for a moment that the Vendors are gonna suffer? Heck, NO! The ultimate user will suffer when the cheaply made part goes bust, tying the car up for 2 weeks repairs followed by squeeks/rattles from dis-assembly & then re-assembly with 7 "left-over" screws the Tech toss's into the trash bin.
Across the street, the headline says "GM gives up on any share gains" ~ Oldsmobile is down to producing 2,800 cars a week, while Nissan is building at the rate of 20,000 a week !
Toyota's Camry plant in Ky is now in its 9th of 25 years of paying no property taxes to that state, and no income taxes to that state.
As I see it, 75% of it all is our government's fault. All kinds of relief and credits to foreign manufactrer's and upping the taxs and requirements on the domestics.
Ford needs Lutz, or Iacocca. Just because his name happens to be FORD, does not make him anything special in the ability department. Shoot the bean counters, hire designers, like Mercedes pay the highest prices (Lexus, too) and have the part made as perfect as humanily possible. At the present rate, Ford will colapse & need a European partner by 2015 and GM will follow with a couple of years. As Chryser was consumed by M-B, so shall Ford (probably Nissan) and
GM (probably Toyota) be "lunched" - Danoz will have the last laugh on me, as America loses it's title as the industrailized manufacturing giant of the world, and massive recession/depression moves over our land, which Japan & China will emerge as the new world powerhouses and WE will answer to them.
