Consumer Report: Nissan Recall

Oct 30, 2003 4:15 pm US/Eastern
PHILADELPHIA (KYW) Nissan Motors is announcing a worldwide recall of over two million cars, including some of their most popular models. Consumer Reporter Paul Moriarty has more.

The Nissan recall affects several different models manufactured over the last three years and even includes the company's Infiniti luxury line. More than 800,000 cars are being recalled in the United States alone.

The problem is defective engine sensors, that could cause the vehicle to stall at any time, even while driving and after it stalls. The engine may not restart.

The recall affects some top-rated models including the 2001 through 2003 Nissan Altima, the 2003 Infiniti G35 and the sporty 350Z, one of Car and Driver's ten best cars for 2003.

Also recalled, the 2002 through 2003 Nissan Sentra, 2001 through 2003 Maxima, the 2003 Murano. The recall also includes several additional Infiniti models, including the 2001 through 2003 I35, 2001 and 2002 Infiniti Q45 and the 2003 M45.

Nissan dealers will replace the defective engine sensors. The repair takes about an hour.

You should get the part replaced as soon as possible because, even though there have been no accidents or injuries so far, the possibility of your car suddenly stalling on a busy highway poses a very dangerous situation.

RE: Makes those MK 8 Problems seem like nothing

At least Nissan is fixing their problems...(Mk VIII headlights...)

RE: Makes those MK 8 Problems seem like nothing

in all actuality, its not that bad.

Its not like the BMW M3 engines.

RE: Makes those MK 8 Problems seem like nothing

I don't know a thing about the M3 engines, but a guy down the beginning of my street has a 2003 745i and once a month or so I see her going down the street on a flat bed :( $70,000 + dollars (or a Town Car and a Marauder kinda $$$$$)

RE: Makes those MK 8 Problems seem like nothing

Maybe they take it to the carwash ... LOL and save miles.

RE: Makes those MK 8 Problems seem like nothing

the engine in my 325i is a huge pain, its always something. I love the car though, so I guess it is all worth it...

RE: Makes those MK 8 Problems seem like nothing

The M3s have an oiling problem.
They cant get enough oil to the top of the engine and they blow up.
My friend had one and BMW ended up buying it back from him.All he lost was the sales tax.I believe it took 5,000 miles or so.

They have a computer on board that can tell them the entire history of how it was driven.(X rpm for X amount of seconds in X gear, then you changed gears and were at WOT and didn't shift untill X rpm, etc, etc, etc.)

They tried saying he drove it reclously, and revved it too high, cause he revved it to 6500 or so.He told them "if 6500 is too much then why does the tach go to 7500 and not redline untill 7000?"
