3v heads for 4.6 mod motor

RE: 3v heads for 4.6 mod motor

I saw a set and had my hands on them at the PRI show this weekend. They did not look that impressive.

I'm just guessing but I'd think that 4 valve heads would flow air better but 3 valve heads would be almost as good and cheaper to make. Would these have one cam per head opperating both intake and exhaust?

RE: 3v heads for 4.6 mod motor

I announced this, at the very least, over a year ago. I had been offered a position to help set-up the new line, and saw the first few sets of heads. Was told they would be in the F-150 first, and then the Mustang. Was told it was all about cost....but that they did make better power(obviously)and were more efficient than the 2 valve head.

Please, please somebody tell me they arent going with a Phoenalic intake manifold again. Didnt they learn anything since the 90's???

I hope that isnt what it looks like. If anyone has ever seen the notorious "split" in the cross-over tube on a 4.6 SOHC, they would never buy a plastic intake motor again.

i'm sure the plastic intake manifold will make it's way back into production in one way or another. Keep in mind that research into composites is ongoing, so just because an old design had problems doesn't mean that this one will be crap (although it might be an indication...)

Humph!

...well, look on the bright side... maybe they'll make a "factory" bolt on replacement for the gear heads.(like anyone who buys a cammer isnt a gear head anyway). I know they are constantly trying to improve things, but we all know that cost is always the factor. No manufacturer developes a part/component for longevity. Its whether or not it will out last the warranty, and how cheaply can they make them.

Of course, if it was any other way, the price tag on the car would exceed $40k.

"Produce them by the masses, as quickly as you can, make them so they perform, and worry about the defects later. if they fail, THEN we'll figure out why, and how to prevent it in the future... until then... build build build. (save.. save.. save)."

thats what their board meeting "minutes" reads.
