Neat

RE: Neat

Seeing a chopped up camaro turned into a boat was bad enough... but that santa thing put this thread over the egde...

RE: Neat

I have seen thos in the recent trade-a-planes, but I dont know anything about them? Got a site with more info? The only thing that gets me is that is so closely resembles a Lake Amphibian, aka subrarines... at least the engine is facing the right way...

And just think about the STOL capabilities with that Maule, let alone with a turbo prop on it!

That SeaWind would look nice sitting next to my ski boat tho...

i saw that amphibious camaro on some TV show not long ago. Pretty fast, looked like fun. But somehow i doubt it can handle the waves i'd be throwing at it.

I remember first seeing them at Sun N' Fun back in about '96. Awesome airplane, just not practical for our family. Not the roomiest, and it won't haul everything we need it to.

I believe there where a few guys putting Allison turbines on them too.

RE: Neat

im not overly impressed. It looks cool, but after full fuel you are only looking at a load of only 600-700 lbs. I make up close to half of that at 280lbs + flight gear. So I could only take 2 other normal sized people with bags or three very small people with no bags. Not oo much better than the Skyhawk XP or the PA-28RT-201T I have been flying around lately. Plus, most of the lakes around here are pretty small and with such a high stall speed and a high Vx, you are looking at some potentailly long take-offs and landings, that aren't really condisive to the bodies of water around here. Where the Maule all STOL'ed out w/ Vortex generators will fly very nicely dirty at around 35-40 kts. Definitely a neat airplane, and pretty inriguing, but definitely not for me. If I was gonna do it, I would do it right and get a Widgeon or a Beaver.

That and the whole Flat bottomed thing wouldnt work out too well for me...

Was that picture made right after he ran off the road and before it settled in the water and sank? Hey Joe, you shaved your 'stach and beard? I always figured you for a "boxer" kind of guy ;).
