Where do you jack up and put...

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

This should help:

These are the recommended lift points for the Mark VIII:

1. Front suspension lift point
2. Front frame lift points
3. Number 3 crossmember
4. Rear frame lift points

You can also use the points just under where the rear air bags are. Just put a piece of wood in to protect the arms... DO NOT JACK THE CAR UP BY THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL... It is aluminum and will get messed up.

Make sure you turn off the air ride switch in the trunk before you lift the car. Turn it back on when you lower it.

Make sure the car is supported securely on approved locked jacks before you get under the car. Do not get under a car only supported by hydraulic jacks. Working under cars is dangerous. Try to minimize the danger.

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

theres a little piece of steel that is attached to the mount for the differential behind the differential. It appears to have been put there to lift the car on, but i don't know. I've lifted my car on that piece numerous times with no problems.

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

If you use the jack in the trunk then you jack it up at the specified points on the pinch weld, not the points in that diagram.

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

OK big problem

I have no idea where the fuel tank is. I thought it was directly under the trunk but if you follow the lines it goes up toward the middle of the car.

Could someone point it out?

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

I jacked it up on the jack point and put the jack where the jack point meets the edge of the car.

I'm a little anal about getting up underneath the car so far. It makes me nervous.

To change the fuel pump how far do I have to pull the tank down?

Could I call one of you and get some feel on this?

DDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT JACK THERE!!!! your going to bend that area, which will cause a perminant squeak while your driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing in between the two circles in this diagram is the tank. There are two straps that hold it in place. Each strap has 2 bolts that bolt to the floorboard. If you undo the bolts you should be able to pull the passenger side down far enough to get the pump out.I hope you are low on fuel, otherwise it will spill out when you lower the side.
If you need any further help, feel free to give me a call.I'll PM you my number

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

Thanks for the reply guys but I'm putting it in the shop.

198.00$ + 100.08$ for part = 300.00~ total. :)

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

Mike Gilbert told me that I had to drop the driveshaft to get to the tank and at that point I said screw it. After talking to him I found the gas tank and saw the straps. The tank is half full.

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

You don't have to touch the driveshaft to remove the tank. It's the other way around. You have to drop the tank to remove the driveshaft.

RE: Where do you jack up and put...

the tank is half full.

or Half Empty...
All joking aside.
THe fuel pump job wasn't that bad.
I did the air ride compressor before I began the fuel pump job
{bad move} 2 major jobs in one day..{yikes)

But..the next day the car was up and running again.
The reason I changed the air ride pump FIRST is because it had failed and the car was slammed.
First step was to get the car UP high enough to get a jack UNDER IT.
THen, I dove into the fuel tank.

Other than the hoses at the back of the tank...it wasn't that bad of a job.

See this is why you do not talk just anyone about what is going on when you work on your car. Sometimes you get misinformed.
