I am in the 3rd stage of building a custom home theater in my basement. Here is a link to some pics if anyone is interested. All feed back is welcome - I am still looking for some new ideas...

let me know what you think!

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

One thing I saw done was instead of wall sconces or cans for lighting, a guy I know put recesses in the walls with little statues and lit those. REALLY looked sharp

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

Damn, why is that server so slow ???

otherwise, looks good. Lots of work ahead of you ...

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

Here's a finished product. It's pretty simple overall. Just a stock Sony system with all the wires and stuff in the walls.

A bunch of cans and a bunch of dimmers - steel studs against the block - with pink insulation - Armstrong ceiling - as tight as possible to the joists.

The whole basement is about 1000 square feet in an "L" shape.

The sound is OK but could use more "shake".

Sharp dave! that yours?

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

i was helping my dad with his basement when i was up in Conn. hes planning on making an uber theater. hes talking about making it 9.1 surround but will most likely just have the 5 or 6.1 instead. im helping him pick the audio equipment and hes going all out with some mega projection screen thats using all new technology or something. i just deal with the audio. hes at the wiring stage and hopefully when i get back up there he'll have most of it done so we can get to the fun fabrication parts.

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

:) i like how the bar was being used as a bar, even as the room was being built! the keg cans are great!

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

Thanks fellas - everyone loves the bar. It needs to be refinished, but yes it has been serving its purpase the whole time.

If you are looking for more shake in that room you might want to consider sub position. If you have a wooden floor make sure it is sitting on the floor or you might just need more power to it. A room like that might need more than 300 watts to shake it up. I am going with a 150 in mine - the room is 20' by 10' - I wish it was a little wider but those are the cards I was dealt.

More pics to come soon!

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

Looks awesome - tell me more about that TV...

I have loaded some before shots - check the link in the 1st post...

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

It's a Sony 50" LCD projection. Not analog projection, but digital. Cost around $3200 after tax, not too bad for a HDTV of that size and quality. Love the plasmas, but for around $8000? Yeah right! Fix the burn-in issue with plasma and cut the price in half, then I'll buy one!

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

I agree - they aren't all they are cracked up to be. Now if the picture was as good or better than a tube tv I might be able to justify that price.

Is your TV the one with the optical sound output? I was looking at the lesser model that does not have the optical out. But who knows - so what do you think about the picture? Does it upconvert signals? What does regular tv look like on the TV? Does it stretch the picture to fit the 16:9 format or are you stuck with the clack edges?

I love that TV and might go for it - but so far the 40" Sony WEGA is the one I want, but everyone is crying about the weight. 300lbs! I do have a custom made stand to hold it that could probabl accomodate double but we'll see. I also heard that the 40" was really bad for regular tv with out the HDTV box - so I have a lot to consider...

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

not bad guys. let me get some of my boss' pics of some of our jobs we've done. I make a living installing and programming home theaters and whole-house A/V systems.

The 40" Sony XBR has amazing picture. It's been regarded as the best tube-tv picture on the planet. But you're right, it's a bear. Plan to have 3 people moving it. but for serious home theaters...we put in front projector systems with the largest screen we can make fit. we've done one with a 90-inch, and more recently, one with a 100-inch screen. A couple more systems are coming up, too. has anyone programmed universal learning remotes like prontos, etc?

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

Is your TV the one with the optical sound output? No
But who knows - so what do you think about the picture? Great
Does it upconvert signals? No
What does regular tv look like on the TV? Let's just say it's better with HDTV!
Does it stretch the picture to fit the 16:9 format or are you stuck with the clack edges? It's your preference, it'll do however you want

Regular satellite looks like crap on it, the resolution is so high that non-HD sources are exploited. You definitely need a HDTV box (from either your cable or satellite provider) to get the most out of ANY HDTV. I've only played DVDs on it using my 1st-gen PS2, which isn't the BEST DVD player around! But the picture was good. I want to get the Samsung DVI-DVD player, which can up-convert DVDs to 720p or 1080i. It can play DVDs at the normal 480p as well. The Samsung uses a DVI cable (pure digital connection), so no analog-digital conversion is ever made. From the time the DVD player reads the disc to when the image is displayed on the set, it's all digital! (I hope you guys understood that!)

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

im curious -- will non digital tv still work via a cable box? you know, after they all become digital?

RE: Post some pics of your Home Theater!

Only with a converter I believe, but yes, they'll have to! Imagine how many people would have to buy HDTVs in order to watch television.
