Net connection

RE: Net connection

I just got SBC DSL hooked up today at my new house - 1275 down and 375 up. But they said to leave the "modem" on for at least 10 days so they can tweak the connection. I'm only a few hundred feet from a remote terminal, so I should end up with close to 3K down before long, (at least that's what they told me...)

Instead of going with Comcast cable and their Internet service, I got DirectTV satellite - for $43/month I'm getting more and better channels than Comcast gave me for $65/month!

I have Comcast, they have been really good to me. $130 a month for Digital Cable (w/HBO). The internet should be 3.2 down and 256 up, but close enough for me. They say that 4.0 down and 384 up is around the corner. (like 2 months)

Optimum rules thought. If might fluctuate like 3000 kbps but it is still worth it for the 1000 kbps upload.

RE: Net connection

Boy, you're paying premium for Comcast. I have Dig. TV with HBO, Showtime and TMC and the high speed internet connection and pay less than $100 a month!! Guess it pays to have a competing service in same neighborhood. I had Cablespeed with Millennium before Comcast and it was terrible!! Slow connections all the time and more expensive.

Who told you that? The cable company? The price for satellite is the same no matter where you are, you put up the antenna and receiver and call in your subscription. That satellite doesn't care where you are.

Work is super slow. Upload is ok, not as good as home, but the dl really blows.

What could i do at home to get my connection a little quicker? Can I "tweak" something?

RE: Net connection

Leo,

My parents have Direct TV and they pay more because they live in a rural area. So if they have to pay more one would figure that with me living 15 mins away from them I would have to do the same. We can't get the package deals they offer at places like Best Buy and other places that sell Sat. TV. No clue way, but people around here pay more.

RE: Net connection

Currently Direct TV is offering a completely free installation and the package with all channels runs $80 or so. It is very tempting, but I will then get hammered by comcast internet and be in the same price range. For me it is better to stay right where I am. However, if you agree to take the plan fo $80 they offer for $100 more (one time) a DVR box and they turn on the TIVO service ($300 value - just for the service). Not too shabby, plus for all the home theater fanatics, you can pass the true dolby digital (hdtv soon to be available) through the DVR - how cool is that!
