RE: 30 Hornets VS 30,000 Bees (video)
I've actually seen this hornet in person. Native to Japan. It's HUGE. (Vespa mandarina japonica). They are 2"-2.75" And they can wipe out an entire colony of bees in short order. These hornets are so massive, that they actually catch one, put a streamer on it and release it. They are then able to follow the flying streamer to see where the nest is so they can be controlled and prevented from wiping out the bee colony. But the bees have a REALLY cool defense, and frequently prevent the destruction of the colony. The hornets sends a scout to the hive before an attack. When the scout enters the hive, a cluster of bees (300-400 of them) form around the intruder. The heat around the hornet rise to 116 degrees rapidly and kills it. The honey bee can withstand 118 degrees. These hornets kill 40 people per year too.
