How about a 1937 Dodge...check it!

I was asked by my good friend Tom to assist him in a project he was hired to do. He was contracted by a gentleman who owns the Exchange Bank in downtown Santa Rosa, Ca.

back in 1937, the very first car to be driven across the Golden gate Bridge was a 1937 Dodge sedan, owned by Mr. Strauss(bridge designer).

I guess this historic bank in my home town was set up for the bridge workers...anyway, here we are decades later, and for some reason, the bank owner has an exact copy of the actual vehicle that crossed the bridge first. My buddy's shop was asked to prep this vehicle for DISPLAY purposes at the main bank branch.

I completely detailed this vehicle from front to back, and top to bottom, including the under-carriage. I drained all the gas from the tank and lines, drained all the fluids/oils from the car as well(so it wouldnt drip on the banks marble floor)

I worked a few days last week after my regular job, spending most of my time on the old flathead-6, which was spraypainted silver decades ago, and was discolored from years of oil and grease. I also detailed the under-carriage, and the large white-wall tires(which turned yellow long ago).

This morning, at 6:00am, my buddy Tom delivered the car to the bank...the whole day hinged on the outcome of this car. There was a glass company there to remove the 2000 lb windows(gigantic sheets of 3/4" thick glass) where the car was to be pushed into the bank. The bank owner was there, and Tom tells me the guy was simply blown away with the detail job. I had to admit...it came out pretty darn nice, for a car with paint this old, and years upon years of finger prints, dust, cobwebs, drips, grease, oil, bugs, squeeks, mold, seat padding, and stench. I didnt get any "before" pics, but since this car was used for parades, and typical "old car" duty, it wasnt too bad...just needed to be freshened up.

Here are some pics for you. They arent the greatest, but you get an idea of what the car looked like when I was done. Notice the hard gloss finish in the pic taken from the rear of the car. I even had to polish each single louver on the side of the twin hood.

Oh, and when I was done, I did plugs/wires, and a 1-2/Mercon V upgrade on my other friend's new(to him) 93. It was a busy weekend.

PICS!

Here is an old ad for the car back in "the day".

And just for the fun of it, I snapped a pic Saturday morning of what my buddy's shop looked like.
