Considering a Mark VIII

The '96 LSC is one of the most sought after Mark VIIIs. Nice find. I'm sure you've read through the FAQ and I couldn't really add more. A well maintained car is what to really look for. Good luck and I hope it pans out well for you. :)

Edit: Aftermarket? No, not much is available but a lot can be done DIY for increased performance. Visit www.supercoupeperformance.com for an idea of what is available.

RE: Considering a Mark VIII

The '96 is OBD-II.

Look at www.blueovalchips.com for an SCT programmer. Lonnie is a master at tuning programs for these cars. I've considered the same for my '96 base model.

Depending upon your plans, you most likely don't need an aftermarket MAF. Everything else you mentioned is good.

Kooks are currently the only available headers that do not require modifications to fit. They are exclusive to SCP. After seeing the stock manifolds in person, I do not see how any porting could help.

RE: Considering a Mark VIII

FYI 96 lsc's are one of the more sought after Marks VIII's and it sounds like it has all/both of the options (sort of kidding, but there weren;t that many otions and the moonroof and disc changer are the main ones tho must be other's, I forget...)

Anyhow I am a big fan of do as you wish with your classic cars etc, but you may want to keep on eye on your mods so they can be undone withour affecting the collectability of the car. Being fast and coupes, Mark VIII's that are completely unmodded are getting hard to find and some day these cars might go up in value significantly. And 96's in general and the 96 LSC's especially had low production numbers if I recall correctly.

We will see how it goes. I am heading out to check the car over real good and make the purchase right now. I hope its a much better shape than the first few I have looked at. :(

Thanks to the people on this forum for sharing your knowledge, the reading I have done on this site has really come in helpful.

Also check out www.lincolnmotorsport.com. They've got some stuff that supercoupe doesn't. Blueovalchips is good also. I've spent hundreds at all three sites. All three guys are easy to work with, and together they can supply you with anything you could ever want for the Mark.

RE: Considering a Mark VIII

Before getting anything, even a tune, I would get gears and a higher stalling lockup converter. You will pick up a full second easy. Then I would get a tune.

RE: Considering a Mark VIII

Sorry, I'm a little behind here - how did it go?

I've just lightly modded my car - first off was a tranny cooler, and my dual exhaust is my favorite mod. My chip from Lonnie really makes the car more peppy and fun, and I have gears (yes still) sitting in my garage waiting to be installed one day.

Oh, and this was always my dream car. Couldn't afford it when it came out, but I've now been driving this car for almost 6 years and she's still fun!

RE: Considering a Mark VIII

Hey desertdog71,

I just recently purchased a 93 mark. I've got to tell you that a vehicle with that low of miles on it would be an absolutely wonderful driving pleasure for you. The problem that i've found is that people who own mark viii's never want to stop owning them. The feeling is unexplainable unless you have driven one. Finding one that is in excellent condition is rare because components, mainly in the suspension, go bad. Bottom line. To replace them to original is expensive. But, what you gain by maintaining them is a luxury hot rod for half the price of new. My 93 Mark can still take most new vehicles on the road today with little effort. I never have to give it all that she's got.

Good luck with your Mark.

I can't wait until I can find a newer one with 53K miles on it.

RE: Considering a Mark VIII

I wanted to take the time to thank easy an every one of you for your posting. I read as much as I could about the Mark 8 before buy one and I'm very pleased with my purchase. (Jan. 5, 2006 / 96 Lincoln Mark 8 LSC Diamond Aniv.) It has a few problems but for $1500 dollars I can't see were I can go wrong. I brought this car from a used car dealer so I really wasn’t sure of what I was getting into but thanks to the help of this site I knew how to fix a lot of the problems like the suspension. When I brought it, it was pan caked to the ground and the sales man told me it needed a air pump and the car would be as good as new be I didn’t believe him because I read a lot of posting from you guys before buying this car and I new it could also be bad air bags too that in return cause the pump to go out but I brouth the pump first and installed it yesterday and so far so good, suspension is working properly. THANK YOU GUYS ONCE AGAIN FOR ALL YOU DO. It save us a lot of money just by taking the time to read the posting you guys leaves for us.
