thermostat?

meh.. two tanks of gas..100.00
gate entry 25.00

no more than I normally spend on a typical trip to the track.

Sooo.........how about those thermostats?
Math is math BTW......kinda like saying throwing your seat out the window WON'T yield a faster time slip.

yea but some would argue that when you opened your window to toss the seat out, the additional wind resistance would negate any gains you got from throwing the seat out.

speaking fececiously of course HAHAHA

OK I'm going for a 160 stat and will set the fan for 180. I'll let you know the difference in preformance and milage.

It has only been one tank of gas since I installed the 160 stat. I am unable to lower the fan setting with the tuner I have (not sure why) so it is still stock. The temp gauge is reading lower. I don’t think it will hurt anything, but when summer comes I’m sure the engine temp will rise enough to turn on the fan. I might invest in another tuner. I was given a Superchips for my birthday and wonder if something else would be better since I’ve never read that anyone here has a Superchips programmer.

I have not noticed any substantial gain in performance, but I have never raced it and I’m not sure if I would feel difference on the street. As for gas mileage no real change, It was actually a little better (1/10 mile per gallon) to 21.7 mpg.

Your temp gauge is reading lower on your gen 2? How is that possible, the temp gauge is a "dummy" gauge on the gen 2's once up to operating temp...

A "dummy" guage? I don't understand that.

The guage, before the change, read at the half way mark. Now it reads below the second line.

OK, since I was not able to change the computer setting could it not think it was up to operating temp?

I'm guessing a dummy guage just places the needle in the middle unless there is a problem.

Wow, I am impressed, the 160 degree temp must have made a huge difference. I have a 180 degree Napa thermostat and the fan turns on at 180 and it's stuck in the middle of the gauge on my 98. The gen 2 temp gauge, I call it a dummy gauge because there is only 1 coolant temp sensor while the gen 1 has two and is far more accurate. I've never seen a gen 2 gauge move after it heats up to operating temp unless it was overheating.

How did you get the fan to turn on at 180? I want mine to turn on sooner, but the programer I have does not offer that option. Although they say it does!

Interesting. I noticed that except for when I was overheating, my guage doesn't move either. Just thought my car was special and loved me.

SCT XCal2 - www.blueovalchips.com - ask Lonnie, I believe there is a setting to lower the fan turn-on temps.

As far as the 'dummy' gauge, a lot of 'modern' gauges are not linear response, particularly those that are fed by a PCM signal. If you really want to know, get a infrared pyrometer and test your engine temperatures at different guage readings. That will tell you what you need to know.

I just broke a serpintine belt a week ago...MY temp gauge worked!!!! Went into the red and I shut it down

Serge....I'm about as lost on this one as the post where you said Gen 1's have a better throttle response because the throttle body is closer to the gas pedal.
:-\

Regardless if a guage has 5 sensors/1 sensor, it should be just as accurate. There will be some sort of delay because it has to go through the ECU but, its definitally NOT a "dummy" guage. The reason it stays at half and hardly moves is because of the routing of the coolant system. Normal cars have 2 radiator hoses and thats it, there is a big change in the temp if the fan doesn't work or isn't on, but with the Marks, we have the crossover tube, and the 4 hoses, 3 at the thermostat so it kinda "equalizes" the temp as it passes through the engine by the temp sensor.

Our cars cool extremely well, but if you start your car and run the A/C while parked in 100* weather, trust me, your guage WILL go up.

Oh...btw, T.B. distance from a gas pedal won't matter for throttle reponse. :)
