Had a loose steering column that needed cables and bearings replaced. The memory (potentiometer) function was working fine when I took it in to a local Lincoln dealer for repairs. They fixed the bearings and cables but told me that the memory function (potentiometer) does not work and they could not find a replacement part for it. Consequently, whenever I get into my 98 Mark 8 the steering wheel will not automatically adjust to the memory setting and I have to manually set it via the telescoping function to where I meed it to be in order to drive properly. My question is - why did this poentiometer just quit suddenly when it was being repaired? Do you think the dealer mechanic screwed up doing the repair?
I cannot locate a potentiometer anywhere without having to buy an entire steering column for about $200 not to mention the cost to have it replaced. Should I go to Ford Motor Company with this gripe? What should I do??
