Back to the track, new best ET and MPH

Went back out to LSMP friday night for the street stock bracket race.

Track conditions were horrible and during TNT I could only muster a 2.26 60' (yuk, spinage!)

Made some decent ET's with crappy 60's.

Went 14.26 @ 100.6 and 14.22@100.69 and 14.25@100.99 in NINETY ONE DEGREE HEAT..all were 2.25 or 2.26 60'

Just before round 1, the track officials decided to PREP the track.
WTF???

After the track was sprayed, drug and prepped they called for "round 1" of street stock.

WTF???

With no TNT on the new surface I just "drew a number out of the hat".
Since the street stock race is 1/8th mile and I had ran a best 1/8th of 9.35 I dropped .02 off and dialed a 9.33

60 foot improved and I hit the brakes at the finish line running a 9.30 on a 9.33 dial in {BUZZER SOUNDS} I had lost round 1...
{kicks stuff around my pit area)

After round 1 of street stock they call the "no electronic/Footbrake Jackpot" to the lanes.

Two of the street stock racers came over, dropped $20.00 in my car and instructed me to "head to jackpot"!!

SO I did, I wiped the .03 off the 9.33 dial in and ran with a 9.30 for round 1 of Jackpot.

The Jackpot was $260.00 and I made it to the final round before breaking out by.0046! ran a 9.2954 on a 9.30 dial in.. but pocketed 130.00!!!!
130.00 paid for my gas, the trip, breakfast and I gave half the money to the two guys who paid for my jackpot entry fee {spread the weath..right?)

After all was said and done, I put the car back in the beams for "ONE FINAL PASS" of the night.. with only 20 minutes since my last pass I didn't think it was going to be a "GOOD PASS".. but I ran it anyways.

result..
2.26 60 {back to crappy starting line)
6.14 330 time
9.25 1/8th mile 80.3MPH
11.97 @ 1000'
14.15@100.3
Baro 30.1
Humidity 58%
Temp 87 Degrees

only .16 away from my first 13 second pass!!
COME ON FALL TEMPERATURES!!!!!

Then.....
The bad news.

Somewhere along the line friday night I snapped both alternator bolts.
I didn't realize it when we left, and we made it home..safe and sound/TIRED.

Saturday morning I went for a drive, belt started squealing..
opened the hood and my alternator was laying against the coolant crossover tube.. WTF????
I put my hand on the alt.. and it was "just laying there".

Spent all day saturday getting the broken ends of the bolts out of the block and failed at finding "GOOD" replacement grade 8 bolts.. so I temporarily put some grade 5's in it.. to get the car HOME.

Today I am working on getting the proper bolts in the alt...

GOOD RUNS FRIDAY.. CAR HELL on SATURDAY...
Still happy on Monday cause "the car went well"!!!!

You ran it so hard you snapped the bolts ;).

Over 100mph is VERY impressive on a N/A Mark VIII!!! Congrats Tommy!

What are your mods?

I know you are running 3.73 with track lock, aftermarket exhaust, and chip. Anything else?

You need to get your 60 foot time in the 2.0 range and you will get in the 13's. Congrats on the new best ET and MPH. 100mph is really fast for a NA Mark VIII.

The 60 foot times friday night suffered from an ill non existant prepped track..

Normally on a good pass I'll cut from a 2.15-2.18 60' with my best being 2.10'

You are correct, if I can get a handle on the 60's.. 13's are right around the corner.

I made 3 100mph passes with the fastest being 100.99 {almost 101!)

Stock converter
Stock Air Box & MAF and a.. paper filter!!

Need to ask why the bolts broke off.

One scenario is that the alt bearing is starting to sieze up...

Those bolts are pretty solid I doubt it is because of a seized bearing... and if it was it would throw a charging light...

How old is that alternator anyways?

Still killer MPH for your car tommy, very impressive.

Tweaking those tables are starting to pay off, eh? :D

No doubt you'll be in the 13s in better air with your current setup, even with your 60 foots in the 2.1 range.

Ditch that stock converter for a good high stall converter and watch those sixty foot times plummet. ;)

I hear your footsteps coming up behind me. No, scratch that, I hear your thundering hooves coming from behind me!! :D:D

I will say I will be very impressed if you can get into the 13's with the stock airbox. What tires are you using?

I change my alternator on a 12 month cycle, pretty much at the end of the summer my "aftermarket orielly autoparts" alternator is "dead to the world".
Thank god for the lifetime warranty {HAHA}

I swap them out in the parking lot now, and take a SCALDING HOT alternator inside for them to TEST, usually since it's too hot to touch they just "swap em out" rather than testing them..HAHA

The alternator is less than 3 weeks old as I just dumped a new one on there.

BUT...I left off the two back bolts that hold the top bracket (plug wires bracket)..which was "MY BAD".

I didn't realize that top bracket was a "structural member", and after looking at it and thinking about it.. it IS a part of the structural support.

So I put the back bolts in the bracket and the alternator is solid as a rock again...
I checked it before putting the top bracket bolts in..and I could wiggle it about a thousandth of an inch.{Barely noticable}

BUT when I put the rear bolts in the bracket and repeated the "wiggle test"..the entire CAR wiggled, instead of the alternator.

In the end.. it was my fault the alternator bolts broke, poor judgement on my part.

just taking baby steps tweaking the tables until I can get WB02 on the car, but YES.. going from the commanded WOT@5500 9 to 1 AF ratio up to 12 to 1 made a huge difference in the "top end charge" on the car.

Funny thing is it's barking the tires on the 2-3 shift about 50 ft from the finish line. you should see my opponents face on the big end when the car SQUATS, BARKS and LEAPS out 1-2 car lengths, it's a HOOT!

I'm "oh so close right now", but based on my available funds (ZER0) I wont have money for a converter before I hit 500,000 miles.

I wish we could get both our cars on the same track, same conditions as I'd really like to see what you car runs at one of these 18-100 ft above sea level tracks.

Your Mark VIII is faster than my Mark VIII. :(

details glen, details.

If you would pay attention to the "small things" we tell you, your car would probably be alot faster.

1.ditch the speaker cabinet, which will help offset the additional weight you added when you went to coil springs.

2.ditch that other MSD coil and get a good stock one back on.

3. battery connections, cant make good solid dependable power if your electrical system isnt up to par.

We've been over this in the past, it's not anything new

P.S. we're not going to the track this friday night, we're going on Saturday the 22nd, it's TW last race and we're gonna forgo the "trophy night" and go race the "money race".

P.S.S. the money race on saturday is 5.00 cheaper than the trophy race on friday! (go figure)

What do you mean its TW last race?

I'll go if I dont have to work :frown:

TW resigned about a month ago, but agree'd to run the rest of the 2007 Bracket Series.
Sept 22nd is the last race of the 2007 bracket series, so it's gonna be TW's last race
