Thinkin' Lincoln

Very interesting! :)

The MKS will be built on the same large-car platform as its cousin models, the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable sedans and the Taurus X crossover. MKS bows during an uptick in Lincoln's fortunes. Sales are up nearly 15 percent this year, and it has passed Infiniti and Volvo to rank sixth among luxury brands.

This is the 2006 MKS concept. It will be a four-door. It is a nice car though. I too prefer a two-door.

I"m assuming you guys have seen the Lincoln MKR concept? Still a concept but hopefully has some decent chances of production. Lincoln could really use a flagship "cool car" to bring people into their show room.

They tried that. It was called the Lincoln Mark VIII. No one liked it.

lol...he's right...no one wants a large 2-door luxury/muscle car. The Hemi 300's come close, but they have 4 doors and are more muscle than luxury. The concept touches on too many niches, thus selling to none.

The GTOs did not do so well either.

I am waiting for GM to come out with another 2 door Regal GN, or even better, a performance Riviera.

It needs to be more sport than luxury but that would defy the Lincoln Brand.

They really need to make an upscale mustang/type thing... it would sell well and compete with Infiniti G37 coupes and the likes... they are selling very well.

But beating a BMW 335i coupe/ G37 is going to be very hard for Lincoln ... judging by the current interiors and engine/transmission lineups.

Lincoln has a lot of good products now, even more with the MKS coming soon but I still don't think it has that "cool" car that will bring people in to introduce them to the more feasible and usually more affordable cars. The MKR would not have to sell a lot, it just needs to get people in the Lincoln show room.

Of course to design a car that brings in people costs a lot of money, does it bring in enough customers to justify the R&D? That's hard to tell.

Anyway i think the MKR has the potential to be an icon that the Mark VIII never really was. The Mark VIII was a great car but didn't really have that wow factor that would bring people to the show room. You really had to drive or ride in a Mark VIII to really appreciate it for what it is. The MKR can hopefully bring people into the showroom just on the looks alone.

I kinda disagree with that. As far as I could tell, the car had the wow factor, it just seems that those who were wowed by it generally couldn't afford it. ;)

I know what your saying. I remember looking through a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII brochure and I know I wanted one. The problem was that I was only 14, so it was way out of my budget. I thought it had the wow factor at that age.

However the reason I say it lacked the wow factor was many people just didn't like its styling. Although I guess the same could be same about the MKR. You can never make a car that appeals to everyone.

I guess what I am getting at is the the MKR is bolder then the Mark VIII was. However the MKR is still concept, so what concept isn't bolder then a production car?

Looks like a spiffed up camry... what a let-down.... Now that FORD doesn't own Jaguar anymore they should really focus on making Lincoln the upscale brand it once was.
