02 Corvette vs E46 M3 (stock)

So I had a very interesting Sunday night...
I lined up with a 03+ E46 M3 that was stock 3 times at various lights and we pulled from 0-40 15-80 0-70. We both had 1 passenger.

I have to say I was very impressed with the M3... it could hang with me pretty good. Please note that I am still pretty bad at driving stick since I have been driving Automatics for 8 yrs and stick for 6 months.

I also did't want to launch the car by dropping the clutch in fear of damaging components so I only dropped it from 1200-1500rpms or so. So in every single pull the M3 was ahead in the beginning :D.

Let me also say that the M3 exhaust sounds like **** when the car is floored... kind of sounds like a can of nails eww. I am pretty sure it was all stock though.

0-40.
M3 came out ahead (see above as to why) I caught up and stayed even.

15-80.
This was by the far the most exciting one. I went from 1st into 2nd because I didn't think the M was going to race... but he floored it... I went through the entire 2nd gear without downshifting into 1st and by 80 I had 2 car lengths on him.

0-70.

This was fun also... he jumped 1.5 car length on me... by 50 I barked 2nd into his open passenger window and by 70 I was about 1-1.5 car length ahead!! :D

I had an encounter with an M5, I had an intake and long tubes as that time. I just mashed the a4 and he kept up with me but could not pass me. He honked his horn and gave me props. He did have a passenger and I was alone.

Did you get that cam in there yet? Are you talking about the 06+M5 or the older one...?

It was a newer one, 06, the one with the button that gives you an extra 100 HP. It has 500 HP but is rated at 383 ft-lbs of torque. Also it is a 4k lb car.

I am hoping to get the vette back on friday and i should have close to 400 RW-TQ.

So what exactly does hitting the button do, switch to a more aggressive tune? If so thats a hell of a lot of headroom in a tune I've never really learned about the new M5's so I'd like to know.
