97-98 HID's VS 96 HID's

Ok, I just left the ford dealership and this is something that you (board members)may or may not be aware of. Or I may be the only one who was not aware of this. I asked for a HID bulb for a 96 Mark and the computer told us that the Light is not serviceable, you had to purchase an entire new assembly, meaning bulb, lens and ballast. So we cross referenced the Sylvania part number over to a Ford number and to my surprise and delight, the part number that came up was a F8LZ-13466-AA. This is the same bulb that fits into the 97-98 Marks. Well it stands to reason that if the bulbs are the same, the 97-98 ballast could be used in the first gen marks to turn the lights on. Not that they are any cheaper, but it appears that the only difference in the systems are the lenses. The bulb and ballast would be identical. I could not find the bulb for a 96 on ford parts network, but the part # above is listed for the 98 and that is the same number in the 96 and it list for 155.00. That same part number from ford is $200.00. I believe someone said that you could get the 96 bulbs for about $100.00 off Ford parts network. If thats true, 97-98 owners could buy bulbs cheaper. Just wanted to throw that out their. If anyone has any info to the contrary, please post it. This info is based off of about 3 hours of research.

Second gen owners are better off just buying a whole new housing when they need bulbs, since the bulbs are in the 150 area, and the whole housing is in the 200 area. First gen owners are just SOL all around :).

I remember the day after my 96LSC was bought, I noticed the HID flickering. I, no the dealer, had to buy the whole unit at $450 his cost. Thank goodness I caught it early enough so the dealer had to pay for it.

If I understand correctly, the bulb for the '96 is the same as the 2nd gen. I had heard this before and that you just have to remove the epoxy coating on top of the screw to service it.
