when i bought my black 93 i jumped the gun and started sanding the car down when i should have waited, so after driving it around for months and feeling totally ashamed i put a temporary spray job on the back and roof. its just single stage nothing fancy but man to see it all black again feels great lol. after i get some projects knocked of my way maybe i can finally spend some time on it and do it all. not bad looking though for now!

Umm I don't get it... why did you sand it down only to put a "crappy" paint job on it again? The roof and trunk look really dull... but hey you did say it was temporary.

i started sanding it because i was going to paint it, but i have so many people who cant leave me the hell alone long enough to finish anything of my own that i had to put it off for now, that plus i do not have the money i need for all my materials so i covered up the gross rear end until i get the time to do it all in one shot, had i known i wouldnt have been able to do it when i started sanding it, i wouldnt have bothered until i was ready. and yes it is dull because its a single stage enamel there is no clear coat on it.

I see you chopped the mufflers off - would be curious to hear that as i hear these sound ok without them - i can't do it though - people around here get uppity about that stuff - don't want yet another visit from the cops! Lol.

it actually sounds pretty damn decent. its not staying like that, i just welded on two pipes about the length of the mufflers and aimed them down a touch. eventually i'll have the entire exhaust done from the motor back but for now, this is it!!!

ahh copy cat lol u heard my exhaust the other day and copied me lol. lol just messen with ya i have some of the big 3x24" chrome tips that i kept off my truck when i had that exhaust re done that i want to put on the back of my car. this exhaust is temp but i figure with the tips on it it will not so "just cut off" and more complete for now.

Hey, I don't blame you at all - it looks a lot better than sanded down. I rattle-canned a couple of spots on mine where the clear was blown off, and even though not perfect they aren't the first things I look at when I walk up to the car anymore. A buddy is going to paint mine with bc/cc when I get the body work finished (or get around to it, lol) so I went the temp fix route too.

And thanks for posting a pic with the chrome painted black, now I know what it would look like. I'll probably get replacement chrome strips, but I appreciate the chance to see it done on a first gen.

Wow i like it. or i just naturally am drawn to black clean cars....haha

It is 100 percent better now from before pics even though ive never seen those before. Youre right, i wouldnt of driven it around like that either with a straight face. I Really like the grill and chrome trim across front BLACK. You got me thinking now, my new chrome plastic grille is chipping already and faded not even past a year old.

Can i sneak my upper horizontal trim panel plus headlight strips and grille in with yours when you shoot them for finished final product for a tip?
I assume you strip them with some kind of etcher or something.
My new plastic chrome grill didnt even have the very thin copper and real chrome on it like the original one did. It came like the cheap repro chrome grille on my truck when i bought it a new one before i sold her.
Pick up a model car kit. Grab the "chrome" tab of parts sheet, and that is exactly what my new grille came like to me. And it looks terrible now. It really is that cheap, so im guessing its not that hard to actually strip the grille in a tub of some chemical, perhaps oven cleaner that owrked so well on my dash...haha and then hit it with couple coats of self leveling primer and final coat with clear on it.
The only real shiny metal feeling chrome was the actual red and chrome Lincoln emblem itself in the middle. And thats still perfect shape with not a scratch on it. Im thinking a high gloss black on the horizontail hood tip strip and on the grille itself of course masking out the emblem to show bright read through later.

well the grille on the car is still chrome, but its all busted on top, i have a new one in my shop i have put away that is all stripped and painted black. i sanded the grille, with 320 the chrome comes right off, the other parts, like the hood chrome strip and the front marker light chromes i also sanded with 320 and then used self etching primer for raw metal, stuff is awesome, i also did this to the chrome trim on the rear lights. i was gonna wait to change the grille till i paint the whole car since i am replacing both front fenders due to slight damage i might as well wait and take the nose off once, i dont like doing stuff twice. all my trim will be black even the trim around the windows, there will be no chrome left on this car except maybe some wheels, but im even thinking about black 18's with a polished lip now, i dont now yet i dont like black wheels but the right style and the right stance looks sweet, i already have the lowered stance so we'll see lol.
