I came across this site which says it can repair electro-chromatic mirrors for $99. Considering that the Ford replacements for the DS mirror are long gone and sold for over $400 even when you could get them, this is pretty cool and a whole lot better than slapping one of those cheesy stick-on mirrors over the old one.

Don't expect any useful info on this youtube clip, it's just six minutes of the guy droning on about how autodim mirrors work and that they can fix them. I'm just including it for reference to the comments, since there seem to be a few people who have had it done and are happy with it.
