Cobra Exhaust manifold install

I am in the process of removing the stock exhaust manifolds. Any tricks to getting the back top nut off? I am considering cutting off the cat just past the manifold for better access.

What are the 2 tubes comming of the drivers side for? Onein the front and one in rear?

When I did mine, I believe I used a 1/4 ratchet with a short extention. I got it from underneath and the ratchet fit in between the manifold and the frame rail.

What is that AIR tube for? I see where it goes. The cobra manifolds do not have that port. Should I just trace it back and plug it?

It is the Secondary Air Injection system which pumps fresh air into the exhaust to assist the cats upon startup for a few seconds. It should lead to the diverter valve mounted in front of the crank pulley. The pump is behind the drivers side fender.

The passenger side OEM exhaust manifold should have a forward bung as well.

I don't think the Cobras had the AIR system?
 
It must in my '97 Gen II..... and the code thrown was the air pump. In fact, aren't you the person that told me what it was????

You are correct. The PCM monitors the solenoid and relay for activation. What I was trying to say there is no feedback from the AIR system functionality. If the solenoid and relay works, the PCM is no wiser to the actual performance of the system.
 
OK....just making sure the OP will be ok by simply plugging the hose/pipe. I actually just went into the search function to be sure....it DID set a code..... that was back when I had the 2nd bad brand new alternator !!!
 
On my '96 the diverter valve is removed and the pump, solenoid and relay are all intact. The air hose is still there, it just pumps to atmosphere now. (I presume it does, I never have checked it and I do not get a CEL.)
 
You don't cap anything off, other than the vac line going to the solenoid if front of the pulley.
You can remove all the stuff associated with it, and you HAVE to switch it off in the tune (on a 2nd gen car) in order to avoid not only a CEL, but also poor performance (it shows up few miles down the road).

How is the Gen2 different?
 
I am not sure how the 96 stuff operates, but I would guess there is no AIR feedback to the ECU. G2 ECU will definitely see any air getting out of the system; even disconnecting the 1" hose that runs from the pump to the solenoid and letting it breathe "fresh air" will cause problems.

Makes sense it would be different on the Gen2 somehow. I can't get the EVTM DVD for the Gen2 models to work to look how it is different.

I know I researched the '96 before I had the Cobra manifolds installed and there is no AIR 'system feedback' but the PCM does control the solenoid and monitor the relay output.
