Directional Chrome or painted...

Does anyone have a set for sale? Tires not needed. I'll just put mine on them. Just curious. I want to stay stock, but I'm tired of the lacy spokes. Maybe I can chrome them to improve the looks, but I really like the directionals.

RE: Directional Chrome or painted...

Jason: Seeing as you're in Arizona, the only real question is how much you want spend. I've seen both on a car your color and they look great! Chrome will mean more maintenance and they can chip/corrode. But seeing as you are in Arizona, that shouldn't be an issue. Chrome also needs to be polished once in a while whereas painted ones are more maintenance free (in my opinion anyway).

Either way, you'll be much happier with the look than with the lacy's.

RE: Directional Chrome or painted...

Jason, for ebay just type in "Mark VIII", that's what I always do.

Jason, I've priced chroming of my wheels and found it to be expensive $225-$325 a wheel. If price is a concern you might want to look into painting or powder coating that should less expensive.
Good luck

RE: Directional Chrome or painted...

I talked to someone who told me to look into companies that can "factory swap" wheels. I give them mine, they send me some already chromed for a difference. Then they chrome mine and wait for someone to call on the next set. I might look into some thing like that.

RE: Directional Chrome or painted...

Thats for cars that are alittle more common than the mark viii=-=why not just get an awesome set of aftermarket rims---u can pick up a set of 16's fairly cheap probably around a $100 a piece---17inch chrome cobra r's are aorund $600 on ebay with out offset and lug configuration-- i feel lucky i got mine from a friend with a tbird who wrecked his car and had no use for the wheels and tires that were around 3 weeks old---i paid shipping+++free rims+++was a beautiful day i remember it like yesterday lol

RE: Directional Chrome or painted...

i saw an advertisement today for centerline rotary forged 20" wheels for $198 apiece. they have smaller sizes too, maybe that's something to look into. I don't know if they're a good company or not.

RE: Directional Chrome or painted...

Centerline makes some really good wheels. Check 'em out. I prefer the 16" on the Linkin. Stock appearance keeps the jerks away. I had a beautiful 93 Honda Accord that started bone stock till I got on it. Custom intake, header, exhaust. Lowered, 17" triple chrome Diablo Racing 7 spokes. $2500 paint job, tint, alarm with backup and automatic windows, white face gauges, sound system. Did it all in about 3 months. Then for the next year and a half I endured vandalism 3 times and attempted theft less than 6 hours after I got into Tucson. I was in the middle of a move with all my irreplaceable stuff in the car. Parked it at 9:30 pm and the alarm was going off at 2:45 am with a broken driver side window laying on the ground. So long story short, I told the wife all customizing would be invisible to the common thief. Not many out there would know that the wheels aren't for the 93 model.

Anyways......

If you really want some painted directionals, mine will be available soon they are in good shape. I'm waiting on a set of 18" chrome bullit wheels and tires as we speak. Should be about a week. I'm near Akron Ohio and will let you or anyone else have them cheap. Say for $200.00 + actual shipping from 44614. The tires probably aren't worth shipping. 2 are ok 2 are worn on the edges. Just let me know.
They'll go on e-bay if no one here wants them.

RE: Directional Chrome or painted...

I'm interested...but I've never seen the directionals close up. From pictures I've seen I always thought the 'non-chrome' directionals were just plain alloy. Are they all PAINTED to look like alloy? Are yours in good shape? I'm in MA. Any idea how much shipping would be?

If nothing else, I might be interested in the painted directionals you ahve. I'm tired of the steels I have my DR's on.

RE: Directional Chrome or painted...

UPDATE!
Got a call back from Santa Ana Plating. Bad News. They stripped the wheels of all chrome and realized the metal is like swiss cheese. They said it won't hold a chrome finish whatsoever! They gave me a number of a company there in town that does powder coating and I called them. They said it should be no problem. They said they can do a silver similar to the finish on the Mercedes AMG wheels. I asked for a color sample to see if I was interested. So still no wheels. They claimed it was because of the harsh road salts and the severe oxidation. Luckily because of my situation they aren't charging me a dime for the work they've done so far. Advice to those interested in replating.....if you have any real oxidation buildup behind the center cap, don't even waste your time trying. Just live with the chrome the way it is and let them grow old gracefully, or buy a new set of wheels.

Damn, that's bad news. My wheels are peeling like crazy in the middle. I guess it's back to checking Ebay. Thanks for the update.

Chrome directionals for you . . .

Jason,

RE: Chrome directionals for you . . .

You musta missed that I got a set already and they won't take to the chrome. So, if you are interested in the same style powdercoated Mercedes Silver in exchange for your chromes, maybe. Only if they have zero wrong with them. It cost me $350 for the wheels and now I have to redo the finish because the chrome was peeling. I bought them knowing full well they had blemishes. I planned to have them rechromed. But after the chrome was already stripped, they realized the wheels wouldn't take to the chroming process because of the corrosion left under the old chrome.
