Does anyone know....

anything about a new Caddy that's supposed to come out in 2005. My friend was telling me about it and he says that it has like a V16 or something in it that can be adjusted so that you can use however many cylinders that you want. I asked him if it was the Caddy Vette and he said it wasn't. He said that it looks like a normal Caddy, but it's crazy.

I never heard of such a thing and I told him I don't believe it, but has anyone else heard of something like this? I find it very hard to imagine that it's true.

RE: Does anyone know....

Caddy has a show car that's making the rounds of the car shows that has a V16 but I don't think they're going to build it.

RE: Does anyone know....

It's possible the new STS may have that cylinder shutdown. The last photos I saw of the STS (we made the tail lights for it) looked similar, but not the same as the 16. It had styling cues from it...

RE: Does anyone know....

There was a caddy concept with a 16 cylinder engine making the rounds. It may yet be built, but it remains doubtful. That will depend on the economy and how GM decides to position Cadillac.

The cylinder shutdown feature is something that GM has been working on for awhile. The idea is to not actuate the valves on the cylinders you don't want to use. They were originally developing it for their trucks, but if a 16-cylinder cadillac makes it into production, i bet it'll have displacement-on-demand.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I thought it was possible that they had a 16 cylinder concept car, but my buddy thinks it'll be on the roads in 2005. I'll tell him it's a concept for now.

Thanks.

RE: Does anyone know....

I've seen it,when running on 16 cylinders its supposed to have 1000 horsepower.

The V12 Mercedes (S600, CL600, SL600) have this feature. Once your cruising it shuts off 6Cylinders saving you 40% in fuel consumption.

I'm not sure if you actually control it, or a computer automated thing.
