Howdy..

New to the list.. and considering a Mark VIII.. I've looked at a few so far.. a nice 94.. But.. the headlights are awful.. I saw the upgrades for 97 and later.. Is there anything that can be done about earlier models ??

Since I'm still looking would I be better off buying a later model anyway ???

your best bet is to purchase brand new housings for it if you buy it, they run about $500 for a pair brand new in the box and will last you years, or, you can attempt what i have done many times to them and cut them apart, rechrome the insides with trimbrite metal chrome tape and then wetsand and buff the lenses. if done correctly they will look brand new too. or buy them brand new and purchase an aftermarket 9005 hid kit off ebay and put those bulbs in the brand new housings, then you will have some very decent light. or you can search for 96 lsc hid housings but these are hard to find now, i have them on my 93.

If you are looking for new you can call Max at 5 Star Ford as he gives us a good price. The last ones I bought were $235 / side.

Another option James didn't mention was going with HIR bulbs, though you'll still have to do something about your housings. HIR bulbs produce twice the light of normal halogen bulbs (which is usually bright enough for most people), produce only half the heat (so your housings will never go bad again), and cost about $50 for a pair.

please it is not james, i cant stand being called james, my birth certificate says JAMIE !!!!!!!!
hir's are another solution but only once you get new or way better then your headlights, they wont work any better if your housings have no chrome left inside.

It is better to use real 9005 HIDs than HIRs... you can get 9005 HIDs for $80 and they have a much higher light output than the HIRs and they are only at 35 watts.

Thanks!!

Thanks!!

I appreciate the input.. and it sounds like there are several solutions based on how much work / money I want to throw it !!

THANKS A LOT!!

If the lights lenses are just dull and green you can actually get ALLUMINUM POLISH and with a little elbow grease they will look near new. I have dune this on my 94 Mark8 and in the past to an 88 Mustang GT works grate.

well the problem with the mark VIII's isnt so much the lense is dull, which they usually are, the problem is inside the housing, you can polish the lense until its completely gone, the light will still suck if the chrome inside the housing is gone, the clearest lense in the world wont help at that point. no reflection, no see!!!!

I can put HID bulbs in my halogen housings?

Sure why the hell not? If your housings are still good you will see a major improvement...

I am running HID bulbs in my stock halogen housings in my Vette... night and day difference.

Ok...didn't think the wiring/housing was compatible. I'll have to give them a try.
