There are a @!#$ load of excellent speakers out there, JBL, Infinity, Polk, MB Quartz, Eclipse, just to name a few. NO ONE CAN PICK A SPEAKER FOR SOMEONE ELSE! Listen to as many as you can and pick what sounds good to you. But be carefull of some sales guys, make sure you listen with the same type of amplification you will have in the car. If you are only using your head unit for power, compare speakers with only a head unit attached in the stores. Then go to E-bay and find the same thing for half
First of all David, I would try to find out why your stock speakers sound like that. My guess is you are getting clipping distortion. That is when your amplifier is not strong enough to power your speakers at the volume level you are listening to them. If the factory amp was not included in the new installation of your head unit, You don't have enough power to drive the eight speakers in your mark VIII. If it was your demand is too high. for ex to much bass, volume too high. 99% of speaker problems are a result of not enough power not to much. .
