Now I can see! Fog Lights &

I have a Gen 1 (aka Generally 1 you only use during the day :) ) and did two mod's on my car about four months ago:
1) installed fog lights behind the grill that come only automatically at night
2) installed a relay so that the low beams stay on when the high beams are used.

Updated my website and thought others may be interested...Here's my link:

The only issue I haven't resolved is the "check lights" message that comes on the first time you turn the high beams on - other than that, there have been no problems. If anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve that (other than hitting the reset switch :7 ) let me know.

Kudos, very well done and well documented. BTW are you allowed to spray paint your license plate like that in Ontario?;)

I think your Check Lights message is due to the way you wired your relay since it is interfering with the Lamp Out Warning module. The module uses a resistor wire reference to compare to the headlamp wiring. Any disturbance in the circuit will be detected as a burnt out lamp. Its not wrong what you did, it's just the sensitivity of the Lamp Out Warning Module circuit. You may try wiring a diode across the coil of the relay to see if that helps.

Sooooo, tell me more.... is this diode a "Radio Shack" kind of part, or are there different types? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

And I think I cleaned the car so much, the lettering faded away!

Does your car stay cool because those block the radiator. I use my high beams and there not that bad I can see the road just like any other car.

I've had no problem with the engine temperature neither when stuck in traffic or on the highway.

I like having low beams on with the highs, just my preference for more light. Try it - have you lows on and hold the "flash to pass" - nice & bright with all four on.
