Performance goals

... So do you think my car might be able to pull off a 13.5 with the Cobra intake?

Not saying it wouldn't, but from what I've seen it's highly unlikely with the stock headers, cats and exhaust piping.

A dynotune may net a few more ponies. I had good results with mine.

If the tranny isn't slipping, being stock is not hurting you.

I think you'll need the sixty foot to be a good bit lower than 2.1 to ever see a 13.5. IMHO of course.

The track says a lot as well. The tracks I run at are 1200 and 600 foot elevations usually with bad air except early spring and late fall. Everyone on the east coast says Atco is the best track for low ETs.

RE: Performance goals

I know I won't be able to do 13.5 with a 2.1 60 foot time. Sacramento Raceway is supposed to be the fastest track on the west coast but it's no Atco or E-town. As soon as I get the car smogged I will take off the 3rd cat, put a 3 inch Magnaflow X crossover in it's place and 2 1/2 inch dual piping out the back to Dynomax bullet mufflers. I will be putting on my Ultraflow mufflers on the stock 96 Mark VIII.

RE: Performance goals

I've got a dumb question. Why does everybody around the county seem to know E-Town and Atco? Especially Atco......that is like a backyard, in-the-middle-of-the-woods, hick track. I know them because I live and race near both. Also, why are they faster tracks? I realize they are at sea level, but there has got to be other tracks at sea level? Maybe it is because they get weather in the 40's........but again, there must be other tracks that are at sea level that get weather in the 40's?

You've got it basically. The elevation, and typical atmospheric conditions tend to produce more chances for a low density altitude which produces best performance. Yes there are other tracks at low elevations, but usually with either higher average temperatures and/or higher average humidity.

Density altitude is the best measuring stick for atmospheric conditions to racing enthusiasts. Depending upon location and weather, it can vary dramatically. For instance, at the two tracks I run(600 feet and 1200 feet elevation), I had an average density altitude of 1785 feet for the year. The best for the year was 330 feet(cool and relatively dry - April 9th) while the worst was 2727 feet(hot and humid - June 25th).

RE: Performance goals

Yeah, I cut quit a bit (I think around 2 tenths) when I raced in Houson as opposed to here in Chicago.
