Rental Car Question

Is there any possible way at all to get around the age requirement of 25 to rent a car?

I really want to fly down to Cape tomorrow but the rental car company insists that I have to be 25 even though I'm flying in. Any possible ways I may be able to get around that?

RE: Rental Car Question

Can your parents rent it for you? I thought here in IL the rules are 25 to rent, and 21 to drive (but I don't remember if you're even 21 yet).

RE: Rental Car Question

The company is Hertz. There sticking with their 25 age limit.

Sharon, Cape Girardeau, MO. And I'm only 20. Good thinking though.

Issac, if I was to hire a chaeuffer I'd have to buy a car first. And if I did that I would just drive the car myself.

RE: Rental Car Question

I think there is one company that will , but you need to be over 21. It could have been budget.

RE: Rental Car Question

I would check with the local rent a wreck places. they dont have much to lose and are probably willing to take more chances. I think you will still probably have problems being under 21.

The only thing to do is pop open the phone book and start calling around. You might be able to find one who will rent to you, but I doubt it. The under 25 rule is probably coming from the umbrella insurance companies...

RE: Rental Car Question

Enterprise.com - 18 and up, some locales higher, large facilities charge a $10/day fee for under 25.

5 months till I don't have to worry about that ANYMORE!!!

RE: Rental Car Question

When I started working as an engineer (22yrs) and took trips Hertz had no problem renting to me. I don't know if its because work set up the arrangements and they never cared to ask the question or if there was a higher cost for being under 25. I'd see if work could help or even have a travel agency arrange the rental. I did have to show my ID when I arrived and picked up but it wasn't to check my age, only to verify that I was the correct person.

RE: Rental Car Question

Someone beat me to it, it's enterprise. I've rented from enterprise, once before i was 21 even. They gave me trouble about that, though. If you're over 21, they let you rent, but i think they make you pay for the extra insurance. Which i'd get anyway, considering the use i get out of the parking brake whenever i rent a car. I almost flipped the cavalier i rented when i was 19.

RE: Rental Car Question

Well just got back from driving there and back :( It was an allright drive though. Got 24.4 MPG with the cruise set at 85 most of the way.

I'll have to check and see if Enterprize can drop something off at the airport next time for me. Thanks everyone
