Restriction in AC?

The AC in the '96 is not as cold as it used to be.

Last year the AC gave out on the Power Tour. Afterwards I had the compressor replaced but this spring it needed recharged. It seemed to work on the trip to Maryland a while back but not as cold as it should be. So I had an appointment this morning at one of the few places in town I trust my cars to which was the same place that serviced it earlier.

They did not charge me anything because they could not find a leak. Furthermore the service advisor said there was something not right with the system and he thought it had a high pressure side restriction by the way the gauges were acting. He suggested I take it to the Ford dealer rather than just throw parts at it (drier, condenser, whatever...). One area I am not adept at is air conditioning. To me, it either works or doesn't.

The dealer does not have any appointments available until next Thursday, so that does not work well with my plans of Carlisle and the Power Tour. I put them off until I return from vacation. The Mrs. is not looking forward to another Power Tour with a possible lack of creature comfort.

I'm hoping it will hold out until then. What would be the likely suspect?
