sun roof doesn't auto close

I just upgraded from a 95 to a 97. My 95 when shut off closed the roof automaticly, my 97 isn't i'm figuring it should. It opens and closes fine so I think the motors ok. Are they supposed to close automatic, and if so does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks

I think that only the aftermarket moonroofs auto close.

Mine is factory installed and it doesn't auto close.

I don't have access to my manuals now, but I recall a limit switch setup on the (factory) motor assembly that allows auto close/open. There is a spec and procedure to adjust it.

I can't say for the aftermarket or the Gen2's.

The Gen 1's DO NOT have an auto close feature on the FACTORY roofs, but I believe some of the ASC roofs did. Gen 2's.....not sure bro.

I checked my manual and stand corrected.

It is NOT automatic, the rocker switch must be held in to operate but the motor will stop at the appropriate point when synchronized correctly with the gear mechanism.

interesting. My 95 had all stock switches and i replaced the motor once and put in a stock motor the old one looked identical. After the switch it still shut auto. I wish I still had it to find out what they did to make it auto, it came in handy if you ever forget to close it.

Hmmmm.....that is wierd. I see nothing in AllData showing autoclose. Got me dude....maybe someone else has this option....I wish I did :D

I used to have a '93 with an ASC roof; it automatically closed.

My '95 has a factory moonroof. It does not close automatically. However, it does have a rather unique feature. When you hold the switch down to open the roof, it stops about 3 inches short of being fully open. If you then release the switch and hit it again, it'll open all the way. However the wind buffeting is much worse, especially if the windows are closed.

The ASC has two settings, the default is it auto closes after you turn off the car but you can also set it so it stays open. Superior to the factory sunroof.

You NEED to elaborate Serge...this sounds like the EXACT complaint of the original poster.....

How do you change the settings?

My 95 also has the 2 step opening....the first stop is at the greatest point of wind resistance to eccentially "pull" out the air in your car vs. forcing the outside air in when its opened all the way.

I think it might have something to do with the alarm I had put in my 95. Ive been looking on the net and found some extras for alarm systems to auto close the windows. I'm wondering if the inst tech wired the outputs for the rear windows to the sun roof. I'm thinking of picking one up it says you can wire it to an alarm or the ignition. For $30 it will be fun to play with. And I'll let everyone know if it works.

There is an "ASC" button, if pressed it lights up red and the sun roof won't auto close. If pressed again, it will turn back to white and it should auto close.

Should be right next to the open/close buttons, it probably looks like its NOT a button, just an ASC label of sorts.
