haha I know. After taking on the mountains in colorado, and Portland Oregon trip. The 454 has made me painfully pocketbook aware that i need a real deisel truck. I'm looking at the FORD F450 Lariat as the only logical choice to continue and still make profit with duarability and maintenence.

Heres some pics i took along the way. I love the GMC 3500 with the Allison tranny, but i think the Ford will be the better choice in the longrun.

What is it?
This is actually two roll off beds stacked inside eachother. Texas Pride manufactures them and this is how they are shipped. They are used for debris removal and the bed/bin actually rolls off the trailer frame to be left at jobsite to fill up with junk or trash. Then you use the onboard electric winch welded to the trailer frame to winch the bin back onto the trailer, lock it in place, and haul it off. They make a sweet flatbed roll off with rub rails on the sides also for this trailer. Then you can switch back and forth depending on the job.

This one made me kind of nervous going under bridges, but i checked twice with tape measure in different locations, and it only was 13.3" to top of load to level road.

air bags on a 5th wheel? never seen that, but must make the tongue bounce almost non exsistent, very cool. that dumpster looked like it weighs 10 x's more then the truck lol, a pick up pulling a semi's load now that impressive!

Actually it was 10,321lbs when i hit the digital scales at DOT weigh scales. It has triple electric brakes like my flatbed does, so its not that bad slowing down at all. It's the lack of horsepower getting it up all those hills in the mountains and gearing down the other side. Hence my need for a Diesil. :)
I run the Prodigy electric brake controller and you can dial in extra boost if needed for the heavy loads that weigh alot more than the truck. Still have to use common sense about stopping/following distances but it really pays off to have precise contoll on the aggressiveness and power of the trailers brakes. Also the airbag 5th wheel helps alot on no swaying and transfering shock to the truck from the trailer.

Wow very cool. Looks like you're in the transport business eh? (duh)

Yep, been doing it for 13 years in the Logistics/Transport/Dispatch field for the Air Force. Figured now that i'm out, i started my own little operation. Fetching Ebay craigslist cars/toys for people and bringing them from garage to garage. I had been doing it all along while in military on weekends renting uhaul trailers and doing deliveries for friends, so now i just made it official and got my own operating authority, insurance and all the special straps and hardware for frame hookups for special airport equipment and cargo.
I just got some rub rails welded along entire leangth of both sides on trailer also as an add on when i was in Texas so its alot eaiser to ratchet strap down pallets and cargo for warehouses now too. I do it full time now, mostly for companys that need a special one shot "get it here now" run. Once on and loaded, and once off where ever they want it driven too and signed for on bill of lading.

Upgraded the truck...

Upgraded the truck...

And mounted a 9,800lbs straight pull electric winch on the trailer. The new truck is a 2006 GMC K3500 Sierra 4X4 dually extended cab like the other one with only 7,000 miles on it. Yep its a gasser too but its the 6.0 intead of the 7.4 litre 454 i was using.
I can't afford to jump into the Big dog FORD F450 twin turbo desil right yet.
I got a really good deal on this one and it should last till i can get the Ford. Those are up in the 45,000 range and im not ready to commit to that payment yet. Got this one for under 20,000. Its not the Silverado loaded one im used to with leather and buckets, but im kind of getting used to the rubber floor now anyways, not worrying about getting carpet dirty and stained from toolbox. Its got split cloth interior bench seats with opening rear cargo doors. (very big plus for me loading that tool box over the old Silverado seat into the back floor). Only options are PW,PM,CC and all the towing packages. Pretty much a stripper work truck. It should do fine.

Jeff- it looks like you got a sweet deal there. Best wishes to you on your new endevour. If you still long for some of that military look that outfit does do some that way. You can tell
